No other way to put it...This was a win for Joe D the GM. I know some don't like the BG trade but I guess if we can do something big this year it'll be worth it and if we don't well, we gave away a 1st round pick for nothing which will be a loss for Joe. (that said, I still have a feeling that the trade might have been pushed by the Gores to dump some salary).
I'd like to see Singler and JJ get equal time at SF and see who wins the job, maybe even give Middleton some run instead of letting him languish on the bench. There's certainly no one that good on the team at SF that deserves a lions share of the time.Tigerbrand coffee is a real treat, even tigers prefer it to real meat.

It will be interesting if we don't sign anyone until 2014. It will have basically made the Gordon deal pointless.

The only carry over from the Championship team....Thanks for the memories Tay (especially the Reggie Miller Block), but it was the move I was hoping they would do and now I am slightly interested in the team again.
I was watching the Bucks game a few days ago and in the beginning was thinking how good they look. I switched over to the Wings game for a quarter and turned it back on to see there was a 43 point swing and the Bucks were up by 25. It totally took the air out of my sails with the team, but now I will be watching to see Jose and how he gels with the team."Yeah You're right man...that is enough."

Excited to see Calderon running the pick and roll with Drummond and Monroe. Both bigs are agile and move well. Should be fun.

Drummond and Moose should have plenty of good looks at the basket now with Jose running the offense. Let Knight learn and do his thing from the 2 guard spot and see what happens.
But I'm petrified Joe will screw this up with mid level guys whom he overpays. If he gives Mayo a max deal I might scream.2013 AAT: SS Jhonny Peralta

Josh Smith, Andre Igoudala, O.J. Mayo, Kevin Martin seem like the guys Joe would go after. Man, just a poor off season to have all this cap.
I'd like to see Joe take a bad contract off someone's hand for a pick or young assets.Adopt-A-Lion: Calvin Johnson - Broke Jerry Rice's single season receiving record

Josh Smith is the only one I'd love to get, but he has said he is a max contract player. I believe for organizations outside of ATL can only offer 5yr 80mill though rather than the 5yr 95 mil atl can offer. If no s&t involved, might be worth it to try and sign then trade Monroe for a wing player. AI is going to be 30 next year so do not want to get stuck with a long term deal. By year 2 or 3 the contract will be terrible bc he relies so much on his athleticism. KM plays no defense so should not be a starter. Signing him would be nearly same as signing Ben Gordon. OJ Mayo could be a fine addition if he asks for no more than 6 mil a year which is doubtful

I wouldn't give Smith more than 4/40. Not a huge fan, especially as he ages.

NBA free agents in 2013 and 2014 - ESPN
Here is a list of 2013 and 2014 NBA free agents...who in 2014 should we throw our money at that we have a realistic shot with?
I am not opposed to waiting a year to spend our cap space but I think the Pistons are going to run into the same problem in 2014 that they are this offseason: anybody they sign is going to end up overpaid to get them to come to Detroit.

If they sign Josh Smith to a short contract (no more than 2 years) but for a steep price (over 10mil per) I'd be ok with it I think. As long as they re-sign Calderon to a similarly short contract. I think that would make for a pretty exciting team. But I doubt Smith is gonna sign for any less than 4 years, which is absurd and I'd be pissed if Dumars does that. And no one else aside from him in this summer's FA class is worth even half a look. OJ Mayo?? pffffft
Realistically, they should do what just about everybody here has stated: use the space to take on some garbage contracts from tax strapped teams for picks/assets. Glad we're all on the same page. Good meeting team.

Forget their high pick... they'll go after Cody Zeller if they can get him; and they aren't going to give that up.
How about Maxiell, Bynum & Jerebko for Perkins, Perry Jones, Eric Maynor, Nick Collison and a future 1st. We can toss in a 2nd round pick.
It doesn't save them much... $7.3 mill... but I think they're going to need that.
We'd be taking advantage of their situation... but I'm good with that!Old AATs: 05 Sborz; 06 Rainwater; 07 Fien; 08 Bowen; 09 Hollimon; 10 DD; 11 Moya; 12 Ciriaco

I'm 100% positive they wouldn't. OKC isn't in cap trouble.

The luxury tax for next year will be set off of the salary cap. So that makes it hard to determine who will or wont be in cap trouble. This year the luxury tax is just a touch over $70M. So here is a list of teams who will have $68M or more committed next year. The number in () is how many players they will have under contract.
Boston - $70.6 (10)
Chicago - $73.1 (9)
Denver - $67.8 (12)
Golden State - $73 (13)
Lakers - 77.6 (8)
Miami - $85.6 (12)
Nets - $84.3 (11)
Knicks - $77.6 (10)
The new CBA has a new luxury tax system, which is why people are scrambling to get under the luxury tax. The old version you were just fined $1 for every dollar you were over the cap. A million over the luxury tax? A million dollar fine.
This link and chart will explain the new system.
NBA Salary Cap FAQ

So lets take Miami and just round their salary down to an even $85M and use $70M for the luxury tax. Under that old system that is a $15 penalty. Under the new system:
$70-75M = $7.5M
$75-$80M = $8.75M
$80-$85M = 12.5M
For a total of $28.75M. Add that with their $85M payroll and their total for the year is $113.75M.VT

I never thought Prince would be traded. Good for him to move to a playoff team, good for the Pistons to continue rebuilding.

That's one way to look at it. That's with them letting Kevin Martin and Eric Maynor both walk as well as not extending any other QOs. I think they'd like to get out of that Perkins deal if they could. Its about 18 mil the next 2 years and that's flexibility that they could really use. I don't think they 'd hesititate to throw a guy like Jones or a future 1st into a deal.
