David Mayo's Detroit Pistons Big Board: How Pistons should rank No. 8 prospects | MLive.com

Kind of shocked by his rankings. Here is his top 10, go to the link to read his reasoning on each:

    1. McLemore
    2. Noel
    3. KCP
    4. Zeller
    5. Oladipo
    6. Porter
    7. Burke
    8. Muhammad
    9. Bennett
    10. Len

I am a little shocked. Mostly because I think 2 of his top 5 will be there at #8 on Thursday.

Oh no, not at all. Green is strictly a catch and shoot player. Just look at his %assisted stats for his shooting. We will compare him to Brandon Knight for some context.

    %assisted Green Knight
    Less than 5 feet 77.6% 35.6%
    5-9 feet 62.5% 33.3%
    10-14 feet 83.3% 23.1%
    15-19 feet 55.6% 41.7%
    20-24 feet 95.1% 76.4%
    25-29 feet 94.7% 86.3%

That DE video said Pope was pretty good at using his first 2-3 dribbles to create space so he could rise up for his shot. But after that he struggled and struggled even more when going to the rim.

DraftExpress: Situational Statistics: the 2013 Shooting Guard Crop

His play-type usage doesn't really stand out from the crowd, as he did a little bit of everything last season, but his 5.1 combined pick and roll and isolation possessions per-game does set him apart from McLemore and Oladipo, as he used more than twice as many possessions creating his own shot in the half court than any guard projected to be selected in the first round.

Caldwell-Pope's biggest weapon when he looked to score was his pull-up jump shot. With nearly three-quarters of his shot attempts coming from the perimeter in the half court, roughly half of which were off the bounce, he scored a second ranked 1.118 points per-shot as a pull-up jump shooter, an impressive mark relative to his average 1.066 points per-shot in catch and shoot situations.

Trey Burke probably didnít work out during meeting with Pistons

Some good points on why he didn't work out. And lets be honest, Joe has probably seen him play in pickup games quite a bit. I have to imagine he has played in the summer with quite a few of the Pistons.

I think if I'm, Joe D. At #8, I look for the best player that falls regardless of position, likely to be Zeller and even in this 'bad" draft, there are players that can help further down so I would try and buy a 1st to add depth. Lastly, I do what I have to draft Ray from UDM. I let Calderon go, tell Bynum he can come back and compete for the starter PG with Knight and McCallum. Save the cap space if I can't find a "good" deal and wait for next year where I think we may have a pretty good FA class starting with the LaBum from Miami..... yes he can opt out and I would not be surprised at all if he wants to further his legacy by taking another team to a championship..... one way he can differentiate himself from Jordan and others.

I really hope MCW is sitting in that green room for a while. I'd take any of those other players over him.
Matt Millen never left Detroit - he just started wearing a very convincing Joe Dumars costume.

I kind of want Wolters with that first 2nd round pick. But McCallum would be just fine with me as well.

We'll be top 5 all year....and then win the last five games and end up drafting 9.

All part of Joe's master plan.

hey, when you get a chance to spend a max contract on OJ Mayo, you just have to do it.

Rondo could be a ticket to a run at No. 8, or a ticket to losing the JET/Bass contracts and getting more picks. Ainge has options.
Bass has 2 years left at $6.4M and $6.9M.

Terry has 2 years left at $5.2M and $5.4M.

Rondo turns 28 at the end of February.

When is the last time it was draft week and we didn't know the #1 pick?

I would say Oden/Durant in 2007 probably? But even then we knew that combo was going #1 and #2, we just didn't know the order. We have no clue who is 1 or 2 this year.

Oladipo's my #1, seemed like a pretty reasonable list. Top 8 is what I would expect at the least. Always interesting to see the ranges on players.

Orlando Magic rumor: Trade for Eric Bledsoe is "expected" on NBA Draft day, according to report - Orlando Pinstriped Post

Could help or hurt, depending on your view.

Means Burke is off the table for them. Which almost guarantees they go McLemore or Oladipo. I guess they could possibly go Noel/Len too.

The Atlanta Hawks are dangling their two first-round picks for a trade in hopes of moving up in Thursday's NBA draft, possibly as high as the top five, sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

The Hawks have the 17th and 18th first-round selections and the 47th overall in the second round. Atlanta has had trade conversations with at least one team picking in the top five, a source said.

My thought was with the depth/value of this draft supposedly being down in ATL's area would you trade 8 for 17/18?

    Of the realistic options:

    a) I hope Burke falls to us, still want a PG more than anything
    b) Muhammed is awful
    c) MCW is awful
    d) anyone but them

Yeah maybe. I know some people like Allen Crabbe. Maybe Sergey Karasev too.

I think I would rather have one of Muhammad/Zeller/Pope personally, but opinions vary.

Oden was clearly the #1 pick in that draft, I think there was some questions about Durant at #2 with his poor combine showings (couldn't bench 185).

But the point is fair, the draft order is really up in the air in this draft. I do not think it is a "poor draft" from Detroit's perspective, they could end up with a player at 8 that is just as good as the player at #1. Lots of good players, no greats, it is pretty deep too. Just as long as they get Shabazz.

The case against working out. I am really leery of Kansas players, I think they don't turn out to be good pro's.
