Rough 5 game stretch:
@Atlanta

The first Cleveland game is the second night of a back to back, with travel.

Good.
Count me in with the crowd that says screw it and rise up the lottery draft board.
Winning at this point means absolutely nothing. They need a young star on that team.

Yeah, I wanna see maximum effort, but still lose in the end. This stretch will be fun (well funner) to watch. High effort, many L's.

69-41 at halftime. Pistons are getting dominated, didn't expect anything else.

94-79 Hawks with 10 minutes left in the game. Pistons had it to 14 at one point.

Maxiell had a hell of a game, at least it looks like he did from the box score (stopped watching before halftime). 19 points & 12 boards tonight, compared to his 6 PPG & 5 RPG averages. He's been getting his fair shot at playing time since Ben has been hurt, but tonight was easily his best performance so far this year, and honestly, from the stats, maybe one of his best games in his career.

The problem with Max is his size. When you play someone his size starter minutes, you are in trouble. 58 points in the paint against Atlanta, 48 against Washington. Certainly not all his fault, but having a normal sized center would help that. I hate to bang on Max though, he has played really well the past month. Maybe he can secure a spot as the first big off the bench or up his trade value the rest of the year.
I know some on this board suggested BG play some point earlier this year. If you were able to watch the game you can see why that is such a bad idea. When Bynum got into foul trouble BG took over at point and it was ugly. Turnovers, lack of ball movement, end of shot clock shots, etc.

Maxiell is a mirage, the numbers he puts up (on a horrible team) are a functon of how trerrible the frontline players he is surrounded by, the outcome of the teams frontocurt performance against decent opponenets (12-33) against teams above Detroit in the standings, demonstrate this point.
BG is a solid player, with specific skills. He has been so profoundly misused and miscast, that they should fire Dumars just for wasting the 10MM he spent on the execution of this idea.

You know, I think what you posted is incorrect, and so I disagree with it, but that's ok because we're all Tigers fans and that's all that matters.

There is always a lot of talk on this board about mistake free agent signings and poor personnel makeup. That is fine but that is now a dead horse in my mind. What i want to know is how can we get the most of the players we have. Since you brought up BG, what role can the Pistons use BG in too maximize his talent? Does he have to be a starter? If we found a competent point guard, could BG turn into our Jason Terry of sorts? Or is this impossible because Rip commands so many minutes as a starter?

BG needs a better front line to set some screens and a PG with skills andd court sense to deliver him the ball, but also deliver the ball to bigs on the dish..
He is miscast..when he plays is less relevant than who, he plays with. Rodney Stuckey is the porrest passing PG in the NBA, doesn't kbnow how to dish on the drive, kick from the drive or deliver off the curl..

One thing I have discovered about BG this year by watching him every game is that he is very much a pick and roll player who doesn't thrive off moving without the ball. To that end, I think a big guy who plays the pick and roll well would almost serve him better than a point guard who can dish.
