And why do they name the teams going into the final weekend of play? That's like voting on the Cy Young or MVP with 10 games left in baseball's regular season.

Romo I could have seen. He's been absolutely dominant lately before the hand injury this past week. 3rd best passer rating in the NFC ahead of Stafford and 4th overall , better TD/INT ratio, better ypa, better comp %.
Eli is a stretch, but he was huge in the 4th quarter this year and he had an even worse running game than us. Last in the NFL at 3.5 ypa where we sat in about the middle at 15th,4.3. I would have picked Stafford, but I don't have a huge problem either way.
BTW, how no name RBs average 4.3 ypa with terrible run blocking from below replacement level OLmen I will never understand.

but Newton is relevant, though I 'm not saying I agree with that getting him in. I don't have a huge problem with him in there either. He has started to get that team winning down the stretch(4 of last 7) and while his passing stats aren't on level with STafford's, he has had one of the more dominant QB rushing seasons ever. All time TD record for any QB.

I'm a Dallas fan.....and I think Stafford got hosed here. The reason The Giants suck running the ball is because opposing defenses don't fear Eli Manning. The reason the Lions average 4.3 is because opposing defenses fear Matt Stafford.
Anyways.....should have been Stafford and Romo at 3 and 4.Michigan Football - Dominating the recruitment of 3* Smurfs from 2008-2010

About the only thing Eli has on Stafford is 4th quarter comebacks, and is that even relevant when Stafford/Lions set NFL record with 4 comebacks of 13+ pts?

This game matters to the players wallets. A lot of the players get nice bonuses if they make the pro bowl.

Its a nice little reward/good recognition but I wouldn't be that upset over this. It was the first full season Stafford has played and he has a long future in this league. He will get his shine soon enough, especially if he can put together a good game in the playoffs. Most young players with 1 good season get snubbed.

Jim Schwartz yelling at the refs at the end of the first Vikings game this year..."Learn the F$%#ing rules" and a host of other examples might have cost the Lions players.

Like I said earlier, I have no problem with Stafford not being a pro bowler... However; him being called the third alternate is a bit of a slap to the face.
It reminds me of that one Cleveland MVP voter who put Justin Verlander as the 8th best player in the AL... If you don't think pitchers deserve the MVP then leave him off your ballot, but don't lie to baseball fans and say he is the 8th best player in the AL behind Michael Young and Adrian Gonzalez.
If you don't want Stafford in the pro bowl fine, but don't lie to football fans and say he is the 6th best NFC QB behind Tony Romo and Cam Newton.
This could be an explanation a friend brought up to me...
Does anyone know when the voting is taken? I mean, it has to take a little while to process everything before announcing it... Say that the voting was done 2 or 3 weeks before the announcement (during week 13 or 14 in early December). That would mean that the stats the voters were looking at were...
Aaron Rodgers: 3844 yards, 70%, 37 TD, 5 INT
Drew Brees: 4031 yards, 70%, 30 TD, 11 INT
Eli Manning: 3705 yards, 62%, 23 TD, 11 INT
Cam Newton: 3297 yards, 60%, 13 TD, 14 INT
Tony Romo: 3325 yards, 65%, 22 TD, 9 INT
Matthew Stafford: 3527 yards, 63%, 25 TD, 14 INT
Looking at these stats, you can see why Romo and Eli would be considered better... 3 weeks later, Stafford has thrown an extra 991 yards and 9 Touchdowns, while not throwing one pick... Manning has dropped his Completion % by 2, thrown only 3 more TDs, and 5 more INTs.
Matty Ice has also beaten Minnesota, led a game winning drive against Oakland, and embarressed a San Diego team playing for their playoff life.
Eli had a chance to pretty much put a lock on the playoffs, and lost to freaking Washington.
Not making excuses, but a lot of Stafford's stats have come in his recent tear, while Romo and Manning have slowed down recently.Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.

I know it's dumb, but I really like the fact that with a win Sunday, us Lions fans will get to watch Sunday Night Football between two teams who are fighting to get the right to play us.
At that, the two teams fighting are high market with lots of fans... New York (which is always high market) against Jerry Jones and "America's Team" (cue rolling eyes), the Cowboys.Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.
