If the Lions and Harrison just found out about this and someone inside the Lions leaked it the same day, then that sounds incredibly insensitive to me. I have to imagine the Lions would have announced that in a more formal, respectful way.
I still think it is more to much more plausible it is a nonsense internet rumor than not.

I doubt the Lions would want to announce anything at all. If this were true then the person who leaked it is insensitive, but I don't see how that reflects on the team. I certainly doubt the Lions would approve of something being leaked.
That being said, I think you are right that this is most likely just nonsense.AAL: Matthew Stafford | AAW: Nicklas Lidström | AAT: Jesus Ustariz

Nevermind. It's true.
Jerome Harrison has brain tumor | ProFootballTalkJerome Harrison has brain tumor
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 20, 2011, 1:03 PM EDT
The proposed trade of running back Jerome Harrison to Philadelphia was voided because Harrison was found to have a brain tumor.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter breaks the news and points out that the failed trade could be a blessing in disguise for Harrison. Without the trade, Harrison wouldn’t have taken a physical that revealed the tumor.
This helps explain how Harrison wasn’t on the injury report last week: The Lions had no idea.
Hopefully Harrison caught this early and can treat it aggressively now. Our thoughts are with Harrison and we wish him good health.AAL: Matthew Stafford | AAW: Nicklas Lidström | AAT: Jesus Ustariz

Wow - well I stand corrected.
Sagnam - my meaning was that if a member of the Lions staff leaked the info, I think it reflects poorly on the organization.

How often is a cat scan included in a physical? (Which is i assume how the Philly docs found it?)

It's been two months since Harrison was signed, why wouldn't people assumed that those two months made the difference between "seen" and "unseen"?

Because it's more fun to assume the Lions doctors are incompetent morons.
Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

The Lions had Harrison inactive for the past 2-3 weeks with no reason given. I wonder if he was feeling lethargic or ill and just wasn't cutting it on the practice field. Totally understandable now...best wishes for a speedy recovery.

There's your answer Big Frame....
He probably hasn't had a physical since he was signed, which was what....2-3 months ago. But I'm sure it's absolutely impossible for something like a brain tumor to have formed since then....2012 Adopt-A-Tiger - Ryan Strieby

Which is more likely?
A. Harrison didn't get a physical before joining the Lions organization.
B. Harrison's physical didn't include a cat scan.

How come Philly's physicals include cat scans and ours dont? Dont that seam odd? And its a brain tumor, its not like one day he didnt have it and now he does.

A physical for a playing incoming via trade vs. a player incoming via free agency probably differ too. Although they shouldn't.

We don't know what each team's physical entails. Maybe he's developed symptoms since he was signed that triggered a CAT scan as part of the incoming physical.
You really don't think a brain tumor can go from undetectable to detectable in 2 months? So exactly how does that work? Does that mean you think it's always detectable from the day it forms? What if it formed in those 2 months? Or do you think it's not detectable until it grows to a certain size? What's to say it didn't reach that size until months after he was signed?AAL: Matthew Stafford | AAW: Nicklas Lidström | AAT: Jesus Ustariz

The question I have is who let the info slip because it doesn't seem like it came from Harrison. Which means that someone can be legally responsible for allowing personal data out. I would find it doubtful to be from the lions side more so than the eagles side.

Is this for real? What do you think? That he's had a brain tumor his whole life and nobody ever noticed it until just now? I mean if that's the case, it must not just be our medical staff, but Cleveland & Philly before this year must of had some dumpster medical staffs as well....

True. Like I said yesterday before the official word broke, I was wondering if they, meaning the Lions, were going to say anything else at all after saying they'd have no further comment about the voided trade. That being said, I don't think I've seen anyone on or from the Lions who have said anything about the actual reason behind the trade being voided.
I saw a clip from Schwartz after practice today, and he just said there are a lot of things that are involved in a trade, and that it didn't go through, and "I think that's about all I'll say on it." Really, the only thing I've seen is a Free Press report in which Harrisons sister said he was doing good, but didn't know anything beyond that.2012 Adopt-A-Tiger - Ryan Strieby

This trade could have saved Harrison's life. I am guessing he hasn't seen the field much because he has been feeling a little off because of the tumor. I am also glad he has a contract, he will get the best care in the world for the tumor. Had he been a free agent, this could have been devastating for him and his family.

Instead of focusing on why the Lions medical staff didn't catch it, I'm going to think how this random trade possibly saved a life. Imagine a world where weed and football are cures for our ills, literally.
