In addition, I would also add, specific to this case, that being critical of how Sanders retired without accounting for all he did for the Lions organization is not fair to Barry in the least, nor is it reasonable, IMHO.
How Barry chose to retire was regrettable. But what he provided to the organization was so much greater than the transgression of not retiring in a manner they would have liked, it really isn't funny. He provided more than any other draft pick in my lifetime. There really isn't a close 2nd. And he did so in a classier way than most players most of the time.
Anyone can be made to look bad if another chooses to fixate on their most regrettable decision in their career and overlook all of the positive contributions. That is what harping on how he chose to retire seems like to me.
