Default Myron Rolle -- db -- Florida State

What's the view of the Draft-Niks on this cat ? I remember all the stories of him going to England, after his final collegiate season, as a Rhodes Scholar. Now he's back, playing in the Senior Bowl and up for the draft. I've seen/read a few interviews w/ him this week and he's a treat to listen to. Character and personality wise, the Lions could do alot worse then selecting Rolle. However, looking at him for nothing more then his on field abilities, where do you guys see him being drafted. And, will he go higher or lower this year, then if he had come out after the 2008 season .

Peace ..

Have to see how fast he is.

Plus, taking an entire year off from football is going to set you back, development-wise.

I agree with the character and personality comments. This guy is one smart dude. I'd love to see the Lions draft him.

The fact Rolle was able to step on a college All Star game practice after sitting out a year of football and didn't look out of place means he is someone I would put extra emphasis on. That sort of discipline is a necessity to be a significant NFL player, and he clearly has it. Combine his intelligence and I would love to see Detroit pick him up.

He was probably a 2nd rounder last year. Depending on his workouts he could go as high as that, or as low as a 5th rounder...from what I've seen, I'd put him in the late 3rd early 4th round

I dont remember who it was but some 'expert' on the radio was saying he would be a first rounder for sure today.

1st of all, I dont think his stock has dropped by more than a half a round or so by taking the year off, everyone is saying he trained really well and is in outstanding shape. So if he was a 2nd rounder last year no way taking the year off would have him fall all the way to possibly the 5th. He has some questions on the field wise that may have slightly dropped him last year had he gone through all the events.

Ans Id say right now he has a possibility of a 2nd-3rd round pick, anything lower would shock me. McShay says he is a 2nd, possibly 3rd round guy at the moment, which is probably where he would have ended up last year, maybe a tad lower.

I'm always weary of players that are away from the game for a full season. Look no further than Mike Williams or Maurice Clarrett. Now, this guy is obviously smarter than both of them and looks like he kept himself in football shape. I haven't seen much of the senior bowl practices this week...I'm mostly going off of what I graded him out to be last year. I assume, from what I've read, that he is the same player or close to it...but until his measurables are in I'll remain skeptical.

Being away from the game for a season or two can dramatically effect things like speed...see Charles Rogers for instance.

I don't think he gets out of the 2nd round. He can do whatever a safety needs to do, and he's quite talented.

In the crazy and F'd up world of the NFL where all-pro's assault their pregnant girlfriends and rookies blow .167 after crashing their 2003 Pontiac Sunfire with underage girls inside, some will probably question Rolle's commitment to the game and his team because he has so many other options besides football.

I'm thinking the other way, that his dedication is admirable since he could be doing other things, but he must love football.

Great Kid. It might be a wise move for Rolle to forgo a NFL career. I would hate to see him lose his dream of being a neurosurgeon due to injury.

I look for him to go in the 40-70 range, but the combine(40 time) will be huge for him. I read his forty time before his time off & weight loss(223 to 217) was in the 4.7-4.77 range. Anything over 4.6 with his productivity at Fla St. would knock him out of the first 3 rounds.

I don't really know anything about him as a player, but I listened to one of his interviews and was blown away. This is Curtis Granderson in a football uniform. If he can play at all, he is going to be a megastar in some city. Absolutely terrific kid. Who wouldn't want a Rhodes Scholar (assuming he can play, of course) on their team? Great for an organization.

The Lions have been burnt by fat, lazy bum players for years, who were just in it for the money. I don't need to give an exhaustive list, we all know who they were. This kid sounds like he's exactly what this organization needs. Having said that, this team has gotten in trouble reaching for kids who they could have gotten lower in the draft. The Lions need talent on both sides of the ball. If he's there with our pick in the 3rd then go for it, but don't sell the farm to move up to get him.

I read on his website his 40 time is 4.42 now. I can't wait for the Combine. I must have Draft Fever!

Character is a wonderful thing, but it's not going to help you if you can't play. Marinelli preached that all the time, it's why they traded Shaun Rogers. It got the Lions to 0-16.

If Rolle CAN PLAY, then sure, although I think the Lions have a lot of other needs besides safety. If he's there in the third round? Maybe, but that depends on who else is there.

For all his attributes, he doesn't play the most important position in the world.

I have a feeling that Rolle is gonna be a top Safety in the league, especially if he ends up in a great system.

I haven't liked Myron Rolle since he said he'd choose his college based on academics, then he chose Florida State over every other school in the country. He could have gone to Stanford if he really wanted a top education.

And he got a Rhodes Scholarship out of it, it worked out fine for him. He also said he wanted to go somewhere with football and academics. I mean look at all this kid has done, I don't think he regrets his decision one bit.

He has to go for the ball ! 1 interception and 1 force fumble in 3 years is terrible. Tackle numbers are ok. I had Myron rated a little high(40-70 range) going into the game. I think I started buying into the hype. Useless he blows everybody away at the combine I think he will be available in the 4th round if the Lions want him.

You can get a good education at almost any school you choose to go to. If he felt most comfortable on the Florida State campus, amongst the coaching staff of FSU, and the players on his team, then how do you fault the kid? I can understand that feeling the day he committed to FSU, but surely you can't fault him after seeing the results.

That is the knock on him, no ball skills. He kind of has stone hands, dropped some INTs. He is a solid tackler, plays descent coverage, just doesn't get INT and isn't out of position much. He is in great shape and is very smart, probably could be a solid player in the NFL, just never a star IMO.
