They probably figure the only way to continue selling merchandise is to get suckers to go out and buy stuff with new logo's.
I'll buy some stuff when they win 8 games - in one season. Until then, I'll keep the stuff I've got.

I like that they tweaked the old one instead of going with something completely different, ala the Patriots a few years ago. The old school Patriots logo was much better than the new one. The team is another story.

I like the new logo, but I don't understand the two white swooshes along the shoulder. Are they supposed to be part of the mane? They give me the impression of racing stripes.
I also would like the mane to be just a tad bit shaggier.

It's the new Metrosexual Lions, with the nicely coifed mane.

Anyone else think this was done as a viral marketing stunt by the team, or is that giving the Lions way too much credit?

Casey,
I was wondering if this was intentionally leaked as a fake... Again, I think it's giving the Lions way too much credit, but it would be funny if we're all hashing out about a fake leak.

if it was fake, it wouldnt have been leaked on NFL.com
if it was released on another site I might believe it, but not on NFL.com

This is the real deal. I understand what they are doing, freshening it up. I don't mind it, I always liked the leaping Lion. I like the new font too, I always thought that old Lions font looked like something out of the old west, it didn't make sense to me.
I will be interested to see the new unis. It doesn't look like there is any kind of color change. If anything they might have some subtle striping and a new font for the numbers. That's probably it. I would have prefered a deeper, darker blue.

Found it on DraftCountdown.com's message boards. Its quite possible its entirely bunk, of course, but with the level of detail I am inclined to believe it for now.

Same. I don't think someone could come up with that good of a fake. Looking at it on this, I like it a lot more. Really sharp IMO.

The Logo has minor differences in the color swatch vs the logo in JMac's post above.

The colors look like the throwback colors in "A crisper look...". Yet in the logo slick, they look like the same honolulu blue/silver...
Did you post those colors, Norman, or were they actually associated with the slick?

They were posted along with the slick on the other boards, but I believe they were taken from the bottom of the slick.
Keep in mind too with the slick that image color quality isn't very great as evidence in "Guide for a Dark Background" part.

I adjusted the colors and tweaked them a bit using the black as a guide. I believe this will better illustrate the blue.

Looks like the same color as the pants, so I think it's silver.

I like the updated Bubbles.
The black stripes on the sleeves still look like arm bands to me, albeit smaller than they were before.
Is there any silver on the road jersey at all, or does it appear to be blue and black only? You can't tell from the pic but I am wondering if there is some silver around the number in between the blue number and the black outline?
The jury is out on the number font. I like block numbers. It will be interesting to see it on a real jersey.
I really wish they would've used the throwbacks full time and put the new Bubbles on the throwback silver helmet. That would've been perfect.

here is a high res version of what looks like the real logo next to the old one. I like it a whole lot better when seeing them next to each other.

So, will the single digit number jerseys actually have "09" or just "9". If it's "09" it will look too much like the CFL.

no, 09 is on the jersey because its 2009 and not because players will wear 09.

They will of course just have a single digit number. The "09" just represents the year....2009.

It's basically exactly like I was hoping for, a slight update in the logo, with a complete overhaul with the lettering. Cardinals-esque

So they gave the lion more facial features and tinkered with the lettering? I liked the old way better, I know its slight differences, but thatch how I grew up knowing the Lions and I hate change.
