Seriously, why do you care so much? This is why people think MSU fans have a inferiority complex. People would take the MSU program much more seriously if you didn't focus so much on another program. MSU won the division, played one hell of a game last night, and you are here talking **** about Michigan.

I really gotta think that after the two great games against Wisky this year and he top 10 D that MSU will get into the Cap 1 bowl. What other B1G school would really have a shot at that game?

I don't think UM fans should be embarrassed...I mean, congrats on a decent season and moreso having a popular football team. It just shows how stupid it is - two teams ranked higher in the BCS weren't chosen over V Tech and UM because they weren't as big of programs. Quality of team simply does not matter - it's all butts in seats, TV ratings, and money. It's such a stupid system.
Nonetheless, enjoy the game UM fans.Obama '12

This has nothing to do with msu. We dont deserve a BCS berth.
But michigan sure as hell doesnt either. And neithee does VT for that reason.
I know you guys benefit from the capital greed- er, bcs, but is it really that difficult to understand why people prefer a merit based system? Go ask stanford and okie state fans how they feel right now.MSU Basketball: Back-to-Back Big Ten Championships and Final Fours

I'm not going to say Michigan didn't deserve to get this bid. They did go 10-2, lost to a very good MSU team on the road, smashed Nebraska, and finally ended the drought against a weaker than usual OSU team. But it is quite obvious they are in a BCS game because they are Michigan. Let's not act like this is Michigan's fault, or that Michigan fans should be embarrassed because Michigan happens to be one of the most prestigious teams in College Football.
There are probably a few teams that deserve to be playing in a BCS game over Michigan. But it's not like Michigan went 7-5, guys. Sure they had an easy schedule but you can't fault them for winning games.2003 Tigers = 2010 Tigers

"Quality of team" is just another one of those 'stupid' things that can join back of the line of things that should matter more in the NCAA than they do. This generation's NCAA and it stepchild the BCS are about nothing if not the money, so there should be no surprise there.

And, to be fair to Michigan, both their losses came on the road.
One to MSU(who had the week off prior) and Iowa(where at the very least should've went into overtime). College Football as a whole was weak this year.
But that doesn't discount Michigan's season. Which was far better than expected

Since the beginning of time bowls have been exhibition games. Just because there's now a "BCS" nothing changes. They've always been ways to attract visitors to the bowl's locale and make money. Aside from #1 vs. #2 and no more automatic conference ties, nothing has changed. Bowls are still exhibition games.

There are four teams in front of Virginia Tech that are not going to a BCS game and five teams in front of Michigan that are not going to a BCS game.

Yup. They would have been better off to leave the bowls with the traditional league tie-ins and just add the one championship game for the consensus #1 v #2. Each bowl could actually better market their ties and build a regional following. The money would be as good or better and the objective would go back to winning your conference for most teams.

This is taken from the BCS' website. Nowhere do they mention the other four bowls are for the best teams or highest ranked teams, they're for "highly regarded" teams.
"The BCS is a five-game showcase of college football. It is designed to ensure that the two top-rated teams in the country meet in the national championship game, and to create exciting and competitive matchups among eight other highly regarded teams in four other bowl games."Last edited by dadair6; 12-04-2011 at 09:50 PM.

And South Carolina. My point is that based on the rules for selection that reduce the at large pool to teams in the top 14 (merit based) and the limit on teams from a conference (also fair, IMO) it's not like Michigan was selected based solely on their name. I'd probably rank them based on merit in this order:
Big XII
Michigan
Boise
VTTrade Ajax

Well considering pretty much everyone at MSU and probably almost all the last 2 graduating classes (beside people who took time off between HS and college) were not even alive last time MSU made a BCS level game, I can understand the frustration. But the reaction is really really bad from a lot of MSU fans I know. They are not taking it well.

For the record, I think Kansas State has a much bigger gripe than MSU. I'm not trying to "whine" about MSU, I'm just arguing against the unfairness of the whole system.
