With its 2010 recruiting class all but finished, MIchigan is starting to turn its attention to 2011.
The Wolverines hosted about 30 prospects for a junior recruiting day Sunday, and got their second commitment for next February from Detroit Cass Tech cornerback Delonte Hollowell. Hollowell is the second 2011 recruit for the wolverines, joining fellow defensive back Greg Brown of Freemont (Ohio) Ross.

For UM's sake, this thread better be riddled with OL recruits...

this too should go in the newly formed 2011 thread, but while hanging out with MSU recruits/basketball players over the weekend, stud WR DeAnthony Arnett (#2 player in the state?), from Saginaw, was wearing a USC sweater. So I'm not holding my breath there. Kiffin was one of the first to offer him

You may have a solid core, but the overall position looks awfully awfully thin (you have what, 13 on scholly next year?). Most recruiting analysts had you guys taking at least 3 or 4 for 2010 , but you're sitting on one with little room left. Not to mention that when it comes to offensive lines, I don't have to tell you guys that rarely do they make it through a season intact.
I wasn't impressed by either Dorrenstein or Huyge - last year. Molk is All-Big Ten calibre if healthy, Schilling is solid...You've gotten good reports on the Omamehs, as well as some of the other kids (Schofield, Lewan, Khoury, Mealer etc...) but that's some untested blood. I realize that defense is a glaring hole, but the line moving forward looks potentially troublesome to me.

Not me, I really like our depth. You didn't mention Quinton Washington, who has been getting the best buzz.
And I'll give you that we most likely will need to pickup some sollid OL recruits in this class, though I wouldn't call it a dire need.
I really like Christian Pace, and really, besides Torrian Wilson, we just weren't in on that many OL, and I like that we didn't take any just for the sake of it.
Now, if we can't get 3/4 in this class, yeah .. I'd be worried, but I don't feel as if this class has to be overly OL heavy, but that's just me.
Either way, winning cures all this... If UM can win this fall, the recruits will come (and so will more OL)

Recruiting is a year-round endeavor for college coaches and at certain times during the year, two separate classes are getting worked on at one time. That was never more evident than last weekend when Michigan hosted a dozen official visitors from the class of 2010, then brought in around 30 unofficial visitors from the class of 2011 on Sunday for a Junior Day.
A Junior Day usually includes campus tours, academic presentations and the chance to watch a game from another sport. U-M's Junior Day coincided with the basketball team’s 68-62 win over UConn.
Michigan will host a second, larger Junior Day in February that should attract prospects from around the country, but the one Sunday brought in some of their top 2011 targets from the Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.
Junior Day brought about a commitment from Detroit Cass Tech defensive back Delonte Hollowell. The Wolverines’ other class of 2011 commitment, Fremont (Ohio) Ross cornerback Greg Brown, was also in Ann Arbor Sunday, as was Saginaw wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett, who has an offer from the Wolverines.
"It went real well," Arnett said of the Junior Day. "The (basketball) game was real fun and the atmosphere was crazy as usual any time you go up to Michigan. I got to see that new indoor facility and, man, they really upgraded it. It is huge in there.”
Ohio State and Indiana also had Junior Days on Sunday, but Michigan was still able to attract prospects from both school's home states to their event. One of the Midwest’s top offensive linemen for the 2011 class is Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Dwenger’s Tony Springmann (6-foot-6, 260 pounds). His interest in Michigan was piqued after attending the Junior Day.
“I thought to myself that this Junior Day would be pivotal," Springmann said. "It turned out to be a great day, a great experience and they are right up at the top of my list."
The state of Michigan was also well represented. Among those in attendance were Southfield-Lathrup offensive lineman Willie Beavers, Ann Arbor Pioneer cornerback Ryan Griffin, Madison Heights Madison's Valdez Showers, Warren Cousino's Ben McCord, Lansing Sexton running back Onaje Miller, Corruna offensive lineman Jalen Schlachter and Ogemaw Heights offensive lineman Anthony Zettel.
Michigan’s next Junior Day is Feb. 20, in conjunction with the Wolverines men's basketball team’s home game against Penn State.
Junior Day is fun..but pretty meaningless, it's a fashion show and most recruits that are greater than 300 miles away do not attend.
Right now, the biggest problem RROD has, is how to combat the neagtive recruiting tactics of other schools..competitors are usingline like..are you sure he is to be there your for your entire career, how will you know the next staff will play a style conducive to maximizing your ability..etc..
If UM struggles in 2010 their class will either be a mess or it will come together late when the new coach rescues it's quality.

Willie Beavers may be the single greatest name of all-time.

I totally agree, though the only way to counter this is with winning.
Funny, if UM ends up getting S Rashad Knight this year, it's only because he took his last visit, because he was said to be worried over Dick Rod's job security.
The source of this; other schools telling him that.

If UM struggles in 2010, which I don't think they will .. but if they do, recruiting will be next to impossible.

Of course you don't, though I don't expect you to... Nice try though
OK. I'd expect them to though, if any number of factors (returning/improving talent, ease of schedule - both opponent and home game total etc...) suggested that would happen.
I expected them to improve from two seasons ago, just as I expected MSU to regress some from '08.
FTR, at this point, I see a very similar season in 2010, as we saw in '09 from Michigan.

So here's the thread to say it. How many wins will Michigan need next season to have a successful season and if Rich Rod doesn't get his team to that point, do you want him fired?

I'll answer: 8-4, barring another Forcier injury. Then whatever in the bowl game.

8-4 regardless of Forcier. If he gets hurt, Gardner should be ready to burn that redshirt.
I would re-evaluate things if Tate got hurt. I basically think RR should at least get 1 good year with a suitable, non true-Frosh QB. It might still mean 8-4, but I don't think Devin will be ready to be a winning QB this year.

Why are you guys hijacking the 2011 Recruiting thread with 2010 UM predictions?
No doubt.

Crenshaw's High's DeAnthony Thomas is the Black Mamba. He's the most hyped player to come out of the L.A city section in the past few years. Here he is shredding Narbonne in the city championship (#1 in white is top 2010 recruit Sean Parker who is among 4 other Narbonne defenders with D1 offers).

tOSU already has verbal commits from DE Kenny Hayes and DE/OLB Steve Miller. Both project to be top 100 players. There are also rumors that DB Jeremy Cash from FL will commit in the upcoming weeks, as will DB Ron Tanner. Cash should be a top 100 guy, and Tanner will be a top 250....

Michigan football program will be selective with smaller 2011 recruiting class
The Michigan football team locked up the bulk of its 2010 recruiting class last spring and summer.
With far fewer scholarships to give away in 2011, Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez said he won’t take as many early commitments this year.
“We really have to make sure we’re pretty selective in that group that’s coming because it’s not going to be as big as this group,” Rodriguez said.
Michigan will have about 14 seniors on scholarship next year and, depending on defections, could have a few more spots in its 2011 class.
Already, the Wolverines have commitments from junior defensive backs Delonte Hollowell and Greg Brown, and Rodriguez said Michigan will once again focus its efforts on defense.
Michigan signed 27 players on Wednesday, 16 on defense, 10 on offense and punter Will Hagerup.
“Our defense last year, I think, had less than 25 scholarship players when normally the breakdown is somewhere between 38 and 40,” Rodriguez said. “We knew going in it was going to take us a couple of years to get caught up. We won’t get caught up totally balance-wise, numbers-wise, this year, but we will in another year.”
Of Michigan’s 16 defensive signees, nearly half - seven - are projected to play either cornerback or safety.
Rodriguez said he’s confident the Wolverines addressed their biggest need by adding depth in the secondary. Still, inexperience is a concern.
“We may have close to that number on defense, but how many of them are freshmen or redshirt freshmen?” Rodriguez said. “There are guys like Justin Turner that redshirted (last year) and some other guys that hopefully that redshirt year served well, and they can compete.
“But it’s going to be interesting for sure. It’s going to be a lot of competition and we’ll have a lot of nervous moments in August getting ready for the first game.”
More Justin Turner
Defensive coordinator Greg Robinson said he saw “potential” out of Turner on the scout team last year, but added, “He’ll be the first to tell you he’s got to go out there and earn it, show what he can do.”
One of the top-ranked recruits in Michigan’s 2009 class, Turner redshirted after arriving late to campus last summer because of an NCAA Clearinghouse issue.
He’ll play cornerback this spring.
“It’s not that simple just to walk in and be a corner in college football when you show up the first of August,” Robinson said. “That was tough on him.”
