I heard he committed to Michigan but it wavering...

I'd be willing to wager that he commits prior to signing day 2010 (this thread's focus). But I feel like I'm cheating, because I think it could be a few months before next February.

With this recruiting class, the Golden Panthers are finally establishing themselves by reaping the benefits of the talent rich South Florida. FIU will win the Sun Belt in 2009.

6'3, 205 as a sophomore with that speed. I'm basically just going to assume Lawrence Thomas is actually just a cloned combination of L.T. and Derrick Thomas.
Hopefully, he can pass his drivers test.

Looks like Michigan will pick up their third commit, Jerald Robinson from Canton, OH. Derek Bryant, DE from CBus is expected to decide mid February and he's apparently a heavy lean for Michigan. That'll be 4 commits by mid February, which is nice, but I don't want to get set up for more decommits.

Wow, I just came from Buckeye Planet .. and those guys are about as close to 100% certain -- as one can be, some even with sources they deem creditable, that FL S Marvin Robinson will pick Michigan. Some say him and WR Ricardo Miller are doing a bunch of recruiting for UM in Florida.

D; I read that Robinson plays both WR & S -- very well, which helps from thinking that the first three commits for 2010 could be all WRs :)

Jerald Robinson WR will committ to Michigan on Monday. He is 6'2 175lbs and plays in a spread offense in Canton, Ohio. He is also on Rivals250 to watch list.
http://mgoblog.com/content/hello-jerald-robinson
That link has an interview with him. Here is his youtube clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIQw6...erald-robinson
Expanding on what Benke just posted about Miller recruiting people:
Quote:
|
JERALD: I talked to Ricardo Miller today, he texted me. We had a conversation, and I wasn’t sure when I was going to commit. I talked to Justin Turner today too. Ricardo told me the atmosphere, and the fans are crazy. The coaches treat you real good, and that made a good impression on me.

here is an early top100 ranking

UM commit Miller checks in at 81
Im pretty sure the considering is weighted in order of most likely to less likely at this moment

So, apparently the MSU coaching staff doesn't like Joe Boisture. They haven't offered him yet, and Boisture's ego doesn't appreciate that. I think Boisture is going to Cinci's camp instead of MSU's, and MSU is recruiting Kent Graham's kid out of Illinois. I heard that the reason MSU didn't like Boisture for this class is because Maxwell is pro-style and only one class older, and they want to alternate pro-style with dual threat in each class (like Tressel seems to be doing at OSU). Then again, why recruit Graham then? I'm not sure whats going on, other than its still very early....

Apparently Devin Gardner dropped tOSU because they still have not offered him. They are going after Nick Montana hard. Michigan and LSU are Gardner's leaders.
Is Montana's kid any good? He's a small guy (6'1" 175) and transferred high schools so he could get a chance to play yet has a bunch of scholarship offers.

Funny how things work out in recruiting. USC is very interested in Gardner from Inkster but they've yet to show much with Montana from down the street.
Montana is a solid D1 prospect but it's hard to say that he'd be this highly recruited nationally if he had a different last name. His school plays at a lower level and has dodged higher level competition in the past. The pressure has been mounting for them to play a tougher schedule this season. We'll see what happens as I'm sure ESPN is chomping at the bit to match Oaks Christian up against a major team for a national game.

Sounds like Boisture is going to commit as early as next week, either BC or UC, maybe Pitt. Devin Gardner is supposedly visiting MSU this weekend.

I think his actual order is MSU, WVU, UM (he cancelled his visit to M last week).
At least thats what I hope. His quotes sound a lot like MD's "you can't commit until you visit at least twice" stipulation, so hopefully this kid is green (he says he knows where hes going to go, but hasn't committed yet).
EDIT: further support: In January, he told bucknuts that his two favorite schools are OSU and MSU. Except he doesn't have an OSU offer. So hopefully that also bodes well...this kid is lightning fast.

I think CJ might commit at this weekend's Junior Day at MSU (it will be his second MSU Junior Day). He's ranked somewhere in the 5-10 range in the state of Michigan, and would be a very much needed DE recruit for MSU.

Olaniyan just picked up offers from Wisconsin and PSU. Would be nice to get him this weekend before too many other big names get involved.

So, MSU is honoring the '79 basketball championship team at the game tomorrow...but I still find it less than a coincidence that it meant Magic was at the Skandalaris Center on Junior Day:
Quote:
The 1979 team actually took a bus together from the Lansing Sheraton to campus on Saturday. They toured the new football facility, watched the current Spartans practice and spent some time with the media. And Earvin "Magic" Johnson owned the room as usual.
...
"But this has been my best Spartan year in a long time because our football team is better. I was sitting home cheering. … man, I was Spartan all the way. I was happy -- coach Dantonio has done an incredible job, our recruiting class was amazing. I’m still sitting here saying ‘Wow, we got one of top 20 classes, it’s amazing for MSU to get that type of recruiting class to come here.'
"The blessing is you've got somebody like Mark Hollis who will call and keep up, and I was bugging him: ‘Where are we going to the bowl? Where are we going?’ … I keep up with the program, they’ll tell you, and Tom has set this thing up. … I tell you what, he’s an amazing, amazing, amazing coach and friend, I love him and his wife and they’re the best we could have here at Michigan State.”

All that excitement for nothing. I guess the Juniors aren't coming until tomorrow. Still probably will have a chance to meet Magic at the basketball game though....fwiw

Talk about an outstanding recruiting opportunity. Within 3 hours after the end of the basketball game, this is already Devin Gardner's facebook picture:
Thats him with Magic, if its too hard to see. Not saying it lands us Gardner, by any stretch of the imagination, but thats still pretty sweet.
According to some guy on a message board....the attendance included the following:
Quote:
|
Over 40 players including Mathis, Bolden, Grey and Gardner among many others. A great group of OL from Ohio also.

Allen Trieu (of Scout) with this to say about LB Austin Gray:
Quote:
|
I just talked to his coach, he will take three more visits (none of them are UM BTW) and he'll make a summer decision. It now sounds like MSU is the leader.

If this holds true, we are going to have more LB's than we know what to do with.

Nick Montana did show up at USC Junior Day this past weekend. Mainly local California recruits checking out the campus. He doesn't have an offer but two of his teammates do.

A guy on buckeyeplanet says we now lead for Latwan Anderson after his visit this past weekend (still no offer from OSU). Do any of the OSU fans in these parts know if he's going to get an offer? It sounds like OSU took a bunch of DBs last year and have more interest in two other DBs right now, who they seem to like more than Aderson. Hopefully this plays out well for MSU.

I think Boisture committed to BC. Not sure how solid that is, but if he doesn't want to camp at MSU, I guess thats it. Hopefully we get Bolden, who I think we're making good strides with.

Kiffin is at it again.
Quote:
Kiffin was equally dogged. But when it was obvious that Jeffrey wasn't going to Tennessee, Kiffin took off the gloves.
According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.
Jeffrey was doing his best to stay awake at that point, but that comment from Kiffin woke him up. He clearly hasn't forgotten it, either.
"He said it, but it's not worth talking about," Jeffrey said.

I heard them talking about it on Sports Radio when I was going home from work. They were making fun of him and trying to guess how many hand shakes he'd get in the conference. So far he's pissed off Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, who's next?

I don't have a scout subscription, so I don't know what the article says....but it looks like Gardner will be giving a verbal commitment soon:
http://michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=162&...%2f846272.html
Which is very surprising to me, considering the national attention he is just starting to receive. Not sure who leads, but he doesn't have an OSU offer. His listed offers are:
LSU, MSU, Michigan, Nebraska, ND, WVU, Wisconsin.
He made this "commitment announcement" after MSU's junior day and before Michigan's, so I'm going to hold out hope that his picture with Magic was a sign of things to come....but that would be one heck of a bombshell.

Michigan's Junior Day is this weekend, yet he already knows where he will be committing come Monday....this is either very good, or very bad (how is that for analysis?)

I would also put Michigan in the lead, and would be absolutely shocked if he goes elsewhere...but I'm not sure how much value I put in a "cryptic" statement from Tom Beaver, because thats like quoting spartanmag -- wolverine style.

Interesting development on Gardner. I hope he picks Michigan, obviously. I'm glad to see that OSU isn't on the list. I think it will be between M and MSU. Either he really liked MSU's junior day and is going to commit to them before M's junior day, or he didn't really like MSU, and is going to commit to M right before M's junior day. I tend to think that the latter makes more sense. We'll see.
