Are you feeling like you've lost your way? Down in the dumps and wondering what you're going to do to get yourself through another day? There's always something you can turn to... The Who! I am going to take the time to enlighten those who don't know, and remind those that do to spend a little time this week with one of The Who's auditory delights, Who's Next.
It's hard to imagine an album that's bookended by Tommy and Quadrophenia is still able to exceed an the FDA recommended capacity for awesomeness ten-fold. The album kicks off with the mind blowing "Baba O'Reily," and leads right into a song I love more and more each time I hear it, "Bargain." A quick foray into the captivating tune "Love Ain't for Keeping" then leads us through Entwistle country for a trouble filled tune "My Wife" and right into wonderful tune "The Song is Over." The song maybe over, but the awesomeness has just begun! It's time for some "Getting In Tune" and after the straight and narrow that is that jam, there's no slowing down as we're "Going Mobile," not one of my favorites but a catchy tune nonetheless. Either way you're brain is going to be mobile (or blown) as this gives way to the epicly emotional tune "Behind Blue Eyes" which serves to prepare you for the song containing the greatest scream in Rock and Roll history, "Won't Get Fooled Again" WOW! YYYYYYYYYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Wow, I need to slow down, my head is spinning, how does Townshend do it?!?
If you picked up this album after 1995 the fun isn't over yet as it's loaded with some excellent bonus tracks. The bonus starts out in a very "Pure and Easy" fashion, and then appropriately for this blog, gives a nice shout out to Motown with the jam "Baby Don't You Do It" now that's just a fun listen. The next song is one of The Who's greatest underrated songs, so take a little dope and walk out in the air because "Naked Eye" is going to take you on a journey through musical beauty. Get yourself a glass of "Water" and hold on because the end is near. "Too much of anything" is too much for me, except when it comes to The Who of course. The following soul searching tune warns the listener, don't pretend that you know me, because "I Don't Even Know Myself." The wild ride your sense just went on come to a reflective point once more with an alternate version of the epic tune "Behind Blue Eyes," and with that it's not over, just time to start back over with Who's Next!
Honestly this album is so fantastic, if you're searching for some new music to spice up your daily auditory experiences, please do yourself a favor and get this album. It's musical genius! Enjoy!
