The random musings of a blow hard lawyer

It took TWO consecutive blocked field goals to beat a 1-AA team in Kinnick Stadium. Predictably, Iowa's out of the top 25 now. But I guess a win is a win and at least we avoid the Appalachain State trap.

This is why you never, ever schedule a 1-AA (or FCS or whatever it is now) team. Its always much more important to them than it is to your team; there is no upside to beating them; and if you should lose you get mocked for years.

Hopefully we can kick the crap ...

After two years, we finally broke through with a victory last night. And it was a blowout, too, by the score of 14-4.

I got a hit. Unfortunately, it was of the Willie Mays-Hayes variety. The damn thing went about two feet.

I took the kids to the library last weekend and while they were looking around, I found the BBC Series "Spaced" by the same guys that did the excellent "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz."

And its an amazingly fantastic show. The story revolves around two twenty-somethings who feign a relationship in order to move into a cheap flat. But that's not as important as the fast-paced dialoge and the numerous homages to movies like The Matrix, Star Wars (repeatedly), ...

The best show of television died an early death, but it went out as brilliant as ever. Great acting, witting dialogue, and great scenery made it a must watch show. Plus, I appreciated how the writers at least tried to give us a satisfying end to the series.

Its too bad there aren't more brilliant shows like this one. Especially since people lap up crap like "the Bachelorette" ...

Started the game leading off and crushed a double to left-center. Really got all of it. Then I got into the field and made Marcus Thames look like Curtis Granderson. One fly ball bounced off my glove and I misjudged another. Hopefully, they put me back in the infield next game, where I'm somewhat competent. Oh, and we lost 17-3.
