Well, the "Independent Examiner" the state had me see wrote something in his report (which concluded that I was permanently disabled and nothing more could be done) that any further efforts would only be "palliative." Somehow I missed that the first tiem through the paperwork a couple of months ago, probably because I was so upset by his assertion that there was likely a substantial history of previous injury to my ankle/foot and I had not provided any proof that this was not so (hmmm, prove that somethign never happened). I was rereading this today as I prepare to see a specialist next week (on my personal insurance's dime, not the state) and he wrote in there this palliative statement.

Note: For those not familiar with the term it basically means care that alleviates symptoms, whether or not there is hope of a cure.

Thus, the non-stop pain I deal with every minute of every day is not worth dealing with in his opinion. I am quite eager to see the specialist, the fact that the state declared me "permanently disabled" without a consultation by an orthopedic specialist is disturbing to me and our daughter the lawyer is chomping at the bit to write them a letter. We are just hoping that this has not healed wrong over the 8 months since the accident.

NOt wanting to start a political thing here but, from my experience living in Canada for three years and now this, this is what one gets when the government manages your health care - care in which the focus is on budget, not healing.

Made tri tip with Snider's seasoning and roast Larrys with my special spice blend. Caesar salad and baguettes. Some kind of cobbler with blueberries and peaches that Lisa made for dessert. Was a bit scared about that one as it was a recipe from the magazine "Cooking Light." It was OK.

Now back to work on class for tomorrow. Get to discuss the Milgram Experiment and how to write an effective and proper Lit Review! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The big Iron Man thing is in Coeur d'Alene this weekend and the bike part comes near our place. I just saw the weather forecast and it is for thunder, lightning, and downpour that day. Could be interesting. An odd sport. Why would one choose to do such a thing? Our bodies are made for comfort, not torture. If waterboarding is so bad then why is this good?

Lisa flies in from KC tonight so when I pick her up we can go out to Ionic Burrito for dinner. Dandy but always tough choices. Probably will go with the steak deep dish quesadilla on tomato basil tortillas. Mighty yummy - may be the single best tasting food item I know. Trouble is their burritos are incredible also. Hmmm. At least I have a few hours to figure it out. It is right near Gonzaga U.

Article from the GU paper about the name change:

If students are familiar with the restaurants surrounding campus, they might do a double take the next time they venture down Hamilton Street. Don't worry, you are not going crazy. Your memory is fine. Where once was Sonic is now Ionic.

Sonic Burritos and Cosmic Quesos changed its name to Ionic Burritos and Cosmic Quesos to avoid a trademark infringement over the summer.

Sonic Drive-in, an Oklahoma chain of restaurants, opened in Spokane on the other side of campus, at 1313 N. Ruby St., this summer. The chain informed Ionic owner Melissa Massie of the trademark infringement last December.

Massie had to change everything that had the Sonic logo on it. After she had changed some of those items, the Sonic Drive-in chain stepped in and offered to help cover some of the rest of the cost.

Many of Ionic's customers are young, college-aged students and many come from Gonzaga, as campus is just a few blocks away. More than half of the employees at Ionic are Gonzaga students.

Senior Sara Burns has been employed at Ionic since the end of last semester. She started at Ionic in the middle of the name change. She said that the name change has been good publicity for the restaurant and that the community has been amazingly supportive.

"I personally miss the old Sonic name and it will always be Sonic in my mind," Burns said.

Massie said she and the co-owner made sure the new name was similar to the old one and that "nothing else changed besides the name."

The restaurant celebrated a grand reopening on Aug. 5.

Massie said that making her restaurants into chain is a goal and that she would like to open up more restaurants in college areas, where her type of restaurant does well.

Massie, the 26-year-old co-owner of Ionic Burritos and Cosmic Quesos, was born and raised in Spokane.

The restaurant is located at 1415 N. Hamilton St.

I would love to know how many games in front the team needs to be before they quit wanting to DFA half the team and fire Leyland. Ridiculous stuff going on. The season is a marathon and you cannot micromanage and microanalyze every inning. 162 games, not 16! What is happening is much akin to those who buy a stock and follow it every 5 minutes all day every day. Those folks make themselves crazy.

Very sad that so many have to complain about a first-place team. I miss the game threads from 3 or 4 years ago when things were not so dominated by gloom and doom. As I noted yesterday in the game thread, many really good posters avoid the game threads these days. We all lose with that.

Tigers will win Tuesday. And the next. I can't imagine being a fan of a team and starting each day expecting that your team will lose and then saying "Hahahaha! I was right!" and reveling in the misfortune. No sense at all to that.:hurt:

Has been the Mariners main guy since their inception so he is quite beloved but wow. A couple of years ago he started (on radio) broadcasting stuff that wasn't really happening. Called a guy coming up to bat, taking pitches, and making an out. Then his partner interrupted and they revealed that it wasn't what was going on and that a different inning with a different team up was starting right then. Very sad. Last night as we were jumping back and forth between the Tigers game and the M's game he made several baffling and confusing statements. Sad that this needs to be revealed to the world like this. He is now a Hall of Famer.

It will be a blast working with him! I may be doing calculus by the end of next year. Been a while since I did that stuff.
Got the oil in the car changed this AM. 12,000 miles. The Caliber seems to be a very nice car. Was incredible in the snow this year. Since the Dodge dealer is near Costco jumped in there and picked up some Ribeyes for dinner. Will have one of those with a baked Larry for dinner while watching the game.
Got the BlackBoard site for my Summer course activated. 13 students registered as of now - I hope it doesn't grow any more than that. Lots of grading in this course.

Teacher work day today. I also have two meetings. One to negotiate becoming a lab school for University of Idaho. That will be a great benefit as they will have lots of their teacher ed candidates based at our school and they will be available to help with instruction. We had the highest test scores in the district this spring (even though we are the poor school in the rough side of town) and this may take us even higher! We had 92% proficient or above in Science. The next closest school was at 78%. :rambo:

Then I have a meeting with the mom and grandma of a student I have been working with and just finished testing. This little first grader is super high in math and I have been working with him one on one most of the year as this was revealed when he brought in multi-page equations for his teacher to see and I checked them over and everything was right. We are devising a special program in which I will work with him one on one each day for math through an online program at Stanford. They found him to be incredibly high. He has no math support or instruction at home (in the single-wide) - he just really understands numbers and how they work Does 4 digit long division in his head.

Somehow I need to get my room all packed up also. Busy day. Hope someone brings doughnuts!

Considering the upgrade to 64 bit Vista. Would let me run 16 GB of RAM. I imagine Photoshop runs quite nicely in such an environment. Must decide soon.
Ahh. Lets start the day.

Just saw the Mariners blow a three run lead in the bottom of the ninth. Picked up Luke Scott on a waiver claim in my fantasy league. I was #8 and figured there was no way I'd get him. Had to cut Griffey for him but I wasn't ever playing Junior - just had always wanted to have him on my roster. Also picked up Jason Marquis today. Can't believe he was available. Good outing for Jackson today. This should be an interesting Summer if I can ever get healthy.

Finally this season I was able to obtain Albert Pujols for my fantasy team. He is having a great season but the last few weeks his numbers have been way down except for walks, I really think that idea about having protection for big hitters is valid. He is seein nothing good to hit.
