What does everyone have planned?
I am doing a bunch of BBQ, Poker in the basement with the fellas, and a ton of drinking! Not sure what the ladies up stairs will be up too!
Well, whatever it is you are doing, I hope everyone does it safe. And hopefully noone has any regrets come Tuesday morning!

Last year we went to Ft. Myers Beach, and it was awesome.
This year? I plan on just sitting home and watching TV. I'm hoping me and a friend can jam on New Year's Day.

I saw Spike Feresten (Seinfeld writer who has his own show on Fox) is going to host Fox's New Year's Eve show. Maybe I'll watch that. It has to be better than Ryan Seagrave.

It'll be a pretty low key night for me as I'm saving the real party for tomorrow. I've got a 6:00 AM wakeup call for Pasadena and hope to be cracking my first beer in the Rose Bowl parking lot/golf course a little bit after 8:00.

I'll be ringing in the New Year up in East Lansing with a bunch of friends...nonetheless, New Year's Eve is the most overrated, annoying holiday there is. Everyone pretty much feels an obligation to do something rather than a want to do something.
Anywho...happy new year everyone!

Home with the family, like last year. Ben gets to stay up, providing he can make it, so he's all jacked up. It's better that way. Not out with the drunks. Or other drunks I should say. The only better alternative is to either stay at someone's house or get hotel rooms with a bunch of others but not at New Year's Eve prices.

Just watched Lou Holtz's pep talk - and even though it was terrible - it has me fired up for the Illini.
Damn that's an amazing view. Will the Ohio State-USC game be in the LA Coliseum? I remember watching the USC-UCLA game where the announcers were talking about USC trying to leave the Coliseum. I plan on being at that game on 9/13.
I will be in N'Orleans also. Maybe we can meet up down there for a beer. I turned off my PMs because I'm sick of all these UM fans annoying me.

I'm not going to drink much (yeah right) but the CTA is offering rides for a penny tonight so I am going to be making the rounds around Chicago saying goodbye to everyone. I've got three or four parties to go to. Then tomorrow I spend the day with my girlfriend for one last time, and then the next day I head out for Lakeland with the truck.
Hmm, I should really finish packing, and stop posting on here.

Wow, I thought I would be the only one not partying. Every year, my housemates and I get together with a few friends and go out to eat. We then play board games or watch a video, and ring in the new year with sparkling grape juice. This year, I have to work tomorrow morning, one of the friends is gone for the week, and another has a dad in the hospital, so my two housemates are going to a sister's house and I will be home alone. I am cooking some BBQ chicken in the oven, and will probably watch a video or something, and be in bed well before midnight. Probably hang around Motownsports all evening. Sounds like I will have plenty of company.

I'll be working tomorrow beginning at 7 am, so I don't have any big plans for the evening. The bf will most likely come over to say happy new year's, but that's about it.
My brother is driving our Mom down South, where she'll be staying until April, so once I get out of work I'll probably head over to his apartment and have lunch with the two of them.
Happy New Year's, whatever you decide to do!

I will be stuck at work for weather coverage because no one else will do it. We have to have someone in the building during any kind of storm warning including winter ones. Heading out to a party at a friend's here in a little bit. It's only about 10 minutes away and I don't plan on doing a lot of drinking, but I may have to stay over there anyway because the Detroit area (http://www.weather.com/outlook/events/sports/local/48192?lswe=48192&lwsa=Weather36HourSportsCommand&from=whatwhere) is supposed to get a bit of snow overnight. While it should be OK to drive in, that + the goofball drivers + already being with friends might keep me there until the morning.
Either way, I hope everyone, no matter what you do, has a fantastic end to 2007 and a fantastic beginning to 2008!!! And of course, stay safe and be responsible.
Also, Happy New Year (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4LF0qAjLVc) from Will Smith!

Ordering in some lasagna dinner from Father And Son (http://www.marcellos.com/dining.html) for my wife and me. Letting a bottle of Shiraz breathe in the basement as I type. A little smooching on the couch now and then, but mostly flipping channels and commenting on what's on. We may clock out before the ball drops, though -- and that's at 1100pm here.

My NYE consisted of dinner out with my hubby and kids, then coming home, working out, playing some video games with the kids, then hubby went to work. I may have had a few mixed drinks. My boys and I watched Dick Clark and rang in the New Year, I kissed them goodnight, and now I have peace and quiet. Perfect!

300k+ people in Las Vegas right now. 135k Hotel rooms. (170k by 2010.)

I'm jealous. They did that here a few years ago. I was hoping that it would become an annual tradition, but they only did it once. The TV coverage seemed pretty boring to me, but I guess it's never anything too exciting.
The highlight of my night was when Spike Feresten asked about an 8 year old girl in Times Square how much she smokes, and she said two packs a day. Then he asked her little brother what his resolution was, and he said it was to stop playing the lottery, but he just loves the scratch off tickets.
Speaking of smoking, no more smoking in indoor public places in Illinois!!!!! I'm so excited. The ought to open all the windows of restaurants for a long time. It's going to take a while to air those places out. It will be so nice to go to a restaurant and not have your coat smell like smoke for the following week.

Well, I am back. I took full advantage of the free CTA and a 24-hour White Castle tonight. My friend Angela was born on NYE, so we had a birthday party/new years party at her place up on the north side. It was the last time I was going to see her for a long time so it was bittersweet.
I drank an entire bottle of Pinot Gris and another 3/4 of a bottle of champagne. But I won the pot in Texas Hold'em (we all put in $5 for a total of $40 and whoever had the most poker chips at the end won) so I am happy to say that I gained money on NYE as opposed to spending hundreds of dollars. Despite winning, I probably had the unluckiest hands ever. I was almost eliminated three times. In fact, I was 3 for 3 on the night when going all in. The girl that finished second place had five straights on the night. I obviously didn't have one. I had one full house, but other than that the best I had was like three of a kind in 10's once, and I probably won the pot while only winning about 15 hands all night. I had a streak of about 8 hands in a row where I didn't get a single face card/ace in my hole cards. And I started out the night with six consecutive hands before I got a face card.
So anyways, Happy New Years, MTS!! I need to go to bed now. I have a busy few days ahead of me. :classic:

Amen to that -- nothing holds smoke like a Chicago tavern built in the late 19th century.
I'm curious: the ban was to go into effect at 1201am, but did the bars allow their patrons to smoke until 500am or whenever they ended up closing? Or did they announce all night that everyone had to stop smoking at 1201am and then they strictly enforced it? Given the strong disincentive of a $2,500 fine levied against an business for ignoring the ban, and city of Chicago's single-minded focus to generate as much revenue as possible in whatever manner feasible, I'm going to guess Option B.

Really? You can't smoke in bars? I'm actually surprised. I thought Florida was more of a "don't let the government interfere with business" state.
That's even better. I have asthma and plus I hate wearing a nice shirt out to a bar and then having to wash it after wearing it for two hours because it smells like an old ashtray.
