View Full Version : Lost a helicopter today

Not the USA, but me. Team Mom bought me a Christmas toy. You've seen the remote controlled indoor helicopters that have a hand controller on TV ads. This was similar and I had little luck in control. Demonstratinng to son in law today, he realized it lost power and control if the controller was not directed right at it at all times.....duh, it is IF and I should have known that. After some trial flights, he took it to the front yard where he managed to keep it off of the roof. After a few minutes while I played in my shop I walked down the driveway to find Todd frantically toggleing the controls and pointing to a distant object clearing my neighbors trees. At about 300', it disappeared several houses down the street. Search and Rescue have failed to find any wreckage.

I'll keep that lil' helicopter in my prayers Huey. I think I speak for the whole Motown community, when I say we're here for you.

Never fear, things like this oftentimes have a way of finding their way back to their rightful owners!
I gotta feeling that puppy will show up shortly.

Last I saw of it (remember, the controller would allow it to crash from 3' away if you weren't pointed directly at it), that little grasshopper was headed North like a Canada goose with a tailwind and #4 shot parting it's tailfeathers.

The "I BUY UGLY HOUSES" folks have all the utility poles tied up. Isn't there a saying about releasing something to see if it returns? Still gonna cost SIL about $20.

Using my other Christmas present, a new weather station, I found conditions were not a factor. Winds below 2 knots out of the SSW, mostly cloudy with good visibility and no storms in the area. Light rain earlier and an approachng cold front played no factor. Local Sheriff was not amused in my 911 call. See if I vote for him again.

Don't show your weather station to your brother in law
Huey lost his Huey. Tragic.
I think you need a bigger model with a real engine next. Those are awesome. :)

It was a present from him and he installed the difficult parts. I may let him play with one of my weapons tomorrow night when I have to go out.

Okay guys I get the message. Go to Marcet's next year. It was funny watching them watch it keep sailing thru the air. Who knew a $20.00 toy would go so far. I meant for him to be amused in his shop not in the yard. No more toys for Todd. TMX Elmo is his speed from now on.

man, sad story huey. I am just speechless right nowYou know it was humorous at the time, but as the tragedy sets in and the twin 18 packs of Busch I purchased diminish, reality is setting in. Not sure I'm ready to handle this right now. I've locked the cache and sealed the exits. I think I can hear the black box signaling and don't have the gear for a heading. My scanner doesn't have a direction finder. Will be a long night.

I would search trees in the area. It might have crashed in a tree

What you do is get another toy helicopter, attach a tiny camera to it, and do an aerial search of the whole neighborhood. But don't lose the 2nd toy copter. That would be moronic.
Team Mom
12-30-2007, 09:03 PM
My best guess is that it landed in a ditch or a pool.
I'd better go check on Huey haven't heard from in over an hour. He is probably sleepng.

Time for a clandestine mission to the North with the scanner seekin a signal along with the controller. Hope the internal battery is not totally dead. It did offer a blinking beacon for night flight.

Bought my step-grand-nephew (Tyler) one of those Havoc Helis, advertised on TV. Got a good deal on it at Wally World.
Tyler is 6 years old, and I'll give you one guess who was best at flying it. And of course, we had to keep chasing a rat terrier away from the heli, after each crash, I mean each of my crashes ....
Perhaps Huey's chopper has been scooped up by a "bird dog" nearby ???

If it's anything like the others I've seen, you don't need to actually use all nine. The directions say it'll work on just three... you'll just get longer life if you pop in all nine of them.

More light than my 3 D cell 10 LED Mag-type light.
