I'm sick. Never took this stuff. For the past few nights i've been waking up every 2 or 3 hours.

I took a pack from my store today. How long does this stuff usually make you sleep (two pills)? Its midnight right now. I want to be at work no later than 10.

Thanks for any info.

Honestly it doesn't affect me at all, I take Sleep MD right now if I want to sleep. But Tylenol PM worked for me before too.

I don't think you have to worry about being knocked out for half the day, Anthony.

Nyquil doesn't "make you sleep"...... it's a cough depressant that might : #1-suppress your cough, and #2-make you drowsy enough to fall asleep.

It's not knockout drops......

Doesn't the package have any info on it? Or try the website if you want exact info, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Its pretty good at knocking you out. Take it right before bed and don't waste time so it can work. Gotta warn you, dreams are lot weirder with Nyquil.

Its good at "knocking you out" quickly, but its not a sleeping pill that will keep you in bed for 16 hours.

stuff works great, definitely helps me sleep but yeah it won't make it hard to get up in the morning or anything

I'm REALLY sleepy within 15-20 minutes after taking Nyquil.

Isn't NyQuil loaded with alcohol, or some other strong depressant ??

Huh, it usually has the opposite effect on me (keeps me awake)

The liquid form used to knock me out, but then I'd wake up several hours later and be unable to get back to sleep.

I don't know if it still does, but the liquid form definately used to contain alcohol. I think you said you have the pill form, though.

NyQuil knocks me out pretty good. And I am usually groggy the next day too. But I take the drinkable form.

Didnt really make me drowsy last night. But i didnt wake up during the night so I guess it did its job.

Still feel like crap.

I thought it might knock you out bad because one time during my junior year in HS my friend, whos dad is a doctor by the way, had the flu or a cold or something. Well, that morning he decided to take Nyquil. He walked into school, could not walk straight. He didnt know it was supposed to help you sleep as well. They had to call his mom to come get him. I couldnt stop laughing at him.

OTC medicine never works for me. Nothing. Tylenol, advil, motrin, cold stuff, flu stuff.... the only thing that's ever worked has been whiskey or Jaegermeister. If I've got a bad cough or scratchy throat, two or three shots of that allows me to sleep well.

Got a bottle of the liquid NyQuil this afternoon, to hopefully clear my nose up tonight, and according to the bottle it's 10% alcohol. Here's to hoping I'll actually get some sleep tonight!

Double shot with a Darvocet and a Multi Vitamin. Sleepy sleep time! Good dreams too!

Scratchy throat i'll gurgle with something hard, started with Vodka, then Bacardi 151, and been doing it lately with Everclear. Burns like hell, but it seems to help in the end.

Nothing wrong with a mix of whiskey/honey/lemon, slightly warmed. Very comforting !!

If it's sleep you seek, try something called "Valerian Root". You can get it at Wal-Mart. Take 3 capsules, & you'll fall asleep in no time. & you won't feel gorped out in the morning.

I've heard it can cause you to test positive for Valium on a drug test, so if there's a screening in your future you might want to look into that.

I like a mix of peppermint and chamomile tea if I want to get some sleep.

Edit: Taking echinacea, along with a megadose of vitamin C, *may* help shorten duration of colds...researchers have gotten mixed results though.

Of course, the health care worker in me has to point out to be sure to do your research, and make sure anything you are considering doesn't interact with medicines you're currently taking for other conditions (for example, my mother has hypothyroidism and there are a fair number of cold medicines she isn't supposed to take).

This is a little info on Benadryl. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diphenhydramine)...
Doxylamine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxylamine) is the active ingredient found in NyQuil...

I've researched the subject at length since I've worked midnights for at least the past 10 years.

For sleep help, I like chamomile tea or Melatonin.

I just did a story last week that said Vitamin C does not help shorten colds. I couldn't find the correct link that I had before, but here's a similar one.

I have Melatonin. I havent used it in a while. I could never ever wake up with that stuff.
