Notes: Rogers gets back to work
Posted by Jason Beck on Fri, 27 Apr 2007 19:22:00 EDT.

Kenny Rogers didn't come back to Comerica Park for another ceremony or a pick-me-up from his teammates. He's here to go back to work.

Rogers is dedicated to his rehab, that's a good sign.

It was great to see him chatting it up with Bonderman during yesterdays game.

"If I can get it to the catcher on the fly," Rogers said, "then I can get somebody out."

I love this.

It's good to see and hear from him. Just having him with the team will help. Hope he's back in July.

Awesome news thank you RSS feeder.

It's clear the two folks we miss most are Kenny and Jamie.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Kenny won't be nearly as effective as he was in 2006. The decline of a pitcher his age is quite steep without a health issue. With a fairly serious health condition, it will be even steeper, methinks.

I remember Brian and I exchanged emails regarding Rogers right after he was put on the DL. He seemed pretty concerned that Rogers may not be able to come back as effective as he was (age, nature of injury). This is a good sign, though, if he's staying with his rehab. We'll have to see.

Q . (For Kenny Rogers) Any chance The Gambler makes a rehab start in Lakeland? -- James Chipman, Orlando, Fla.

A . The arm is feeling all right, but it is not where I want it to be. I played (catch) three times, but there are limitations right now and I do not care for that. I just have to stay at a pace that I can handle and try not to do anything to set me back. The (disabled list) is not somewhere I frequent, and I certainly despise it. I got to spend an extra month with my family and I thoroughly enjoyed that, but I've been antsy to get back. I can't throw off a mound yet, so there has been no talk about rehab starts.

He pitched well during ST when things weren't feeling right this year. Him coming back in July will be just like if we made a big trade at the trade deadline. This is a good thing.
