I was going to ask about Benitiz. I went through the 2006 rosters, looked at the 2007 rosters and the transactions listed on BA. I assumed he was in EST. A few others are missing but I assume they are in EST.

Joe Tucker is a surprise but maybe there was an empty DL slot at Lakeland.

No Erik Averill?

Also, I never have seen Chris Homer's name. Was he released before the end of the 2006 season?

Looks like the first five pitchers are the starting rotation in order.

I would hope Aponte is starting over Matt Righter.

I was wondering about Chris Homer too plus Mahoney,Figaro,Franco,Fragosa.
There was a article on Benitez iyesterday I think in one of the articles in this forum .

Who's Gabriel Benitez? Anyone know anything about him?

I am pretty shocked about Carlson. He must have had a bad spring to be left out of WM and Lakeland.

Homer was having control problems last year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they carried over to the spring...he's never been a model of command on the mound.

Mahoney is completing his rehab....Figaro, despite good numbers in the GCL isn't quite advanced enough for the leap to full-season ball....Franco shouldn't be surprising in any capacity, he's extremely raw with a ton to learn.

Fragoso is pretty surprising. This is the second year in a row he's been held back surprisingly...and I'm not sure if there isn't more to this than meets the eye.

As for Benitez....same old story for a Tigers pitcher....good potential arm, with some decent velocity, tons of size, and a couple off-speed pitches that could become something of substance.

I am pretty shocked about Carlson. He must have had a bad spring to be left out of WM and Lakeland.

Yet what little info we got on him this spring was positive and that he was outplaying Strieby and playing with the Lakeland team.

As Micro just posted about another player, maybe there is more than meets the eye.

While I generally agree with this sentiment...I have a harder time with that as a plausible explanation for Carlson's absence. The only time I saw Fragoso down south (granted, only in 3 days at the minor league fields), he was working out with the DSL/GCL characters in PFP drills. In Carlson's case, he was always on the field with a full-season club, and the idle chatter I overheard always spoke well of his performance this spring.....there seems to be some sort of disconnect there.

We are on the same page. I guess "more than meets the eye" can be construed as a negative but it is a mystery, or as you say, a disconnect. Let's hope Carlson is back on the diamond and playing real soon.

Micro, any thoughts/news on Averill? I thought he had a good year in 06 and he is a southpaw.

Averill was reported by potthole to be on Western Michigan's DL.

Carlson not on a team is unacceptable. There's nothing blocking these guys on this team, which has fodder clogging up first, second, and short. At least there won't be an excuse for them to "Hollimon" Sizemore this year.

Sure there is....he's got a very toolsy shortstop ahead of him....Miguel Linares, who looks poised to fill the Gil Mejia role as toolsy, Latin prospect who they hope puts it together......though in my view, he appeared closer to putting it together than Mejia.

Except Sizemore is at second, where the mighty Ovandy Suero and William Rhymes are standing in the way.

I wonder if Carlson is injured? My thoughts also. The last week, Cotto was pulled from the AA team to Lakeland and I never saw Strieby again (memory may be wrong here). Unassigned players were playing on Al Kaline across the runway or on the back fields.

Curiously, who? Benitez I never saw at all before tonight. Tomey is all I can ask for in the late innings in A ball based on last season and ST. Aponte already has some experience at this level.

Averill was reported by potthole to be on Western Michigan's DL.

That is correct. I don't know if he's up here with the rest of the team right now (I didn't see him tonight at the autograph session), but at least as of 3/31 he was listed on the Whitecaps DL.

He can be on the WM's DL without being in Grand Rapids.

We had four late arrivals at our get together and I know Campusano was one of them. Averill could have been one also. The other two I did not know for sure. They had been at the practice and then walked in to the food area and the staff invited them over to eat.

I doubt Campusano is doing too much in practice given he just had TJ... didn't he?

I doubt Campusano is doing too much in practice given he just had TJ... didn't he?I haven't seen if he did. Twice I have seen who I believe is Campusano in a full left arm brace and twice the same man without it. No, no practice, just watching.

He did. I am guessing he is just around for them to keep an eye on/rehab.

I would hope Aponte is starting over Matt Righter.

Talked with Matt after there practice last night he'll be coming out of the bullpen, he said there going to handle him the same way there handling Sleeth in the Erie out of the bullpen & then maybe a start here or there.

I think the player I'm personally most interested in is Ronald Bourquin. I'd really like him to develop into a special player. What can ya tell me about him? What should his stats look like? Micro or OU, you guys have an opinion on this one?

Micro or OU, you guys have an opinion on this one?The backgtound I have is easily available online. Observation is an adept 3B with a bat that with training will become very solid. Powerful, certainly!. I'll let others define pitch reaction, etc. Moves quickly for a big guy. Ran into his Dad last night (met).

3B with a good bat for average and OBP but a terrible bat for power. I don't know if he will ever develop power either.

Thanks for the info... but I have to say that is pretty funny that he would compare himself to Sleeth.

Thanks Roger yeah that's what I meant, I just stated how the were going to work with him to get his arm strength and consistancy back, alot like how they are handling Sleeth in Erie.

Didn't mean to make sound like he was a top line pitcher.

Didn't mean to make sound like he was a top line pitcher.I hope for the best. He had it once and hope he can regain his future. The right attitude is there; I trust the pitch is also. Do it MR!
