I know he's been up and down from the minors a few times, but I've never seen him pitch. What pitches does he throw? Where does his fastball top out at? Do you think this could be a solid year for him? Do you think he'll be better or worse than Miner was last year?

He doesn't have a bad arm, but he's not the dominating type. And funny that you brought up Zach Miner. That is who I'd compare his stuff to.

way off subject but by what time does kenney rodgers have to be back by to be playoff eligible?

he would have to be back august 31st, but i think he could go back anytime because he is technically an "active" player on our team cause he is on the disabled list. he could sit on the dl all year and be activated right before the divisional series and still pitch. tell me out there if i am wrong?

Based on offspeed stuff I think Miner is a tick above Durbin.

Durbin added a 2 seamer and a cutter last season that he really liked and had a ton of success with at the AAA level. We will see if that translates to more success at the MLB level. He has always had a nice change up.

I am pretty sure you are allowed to bring players off of the 15 day dl and place them onto the playoff roster in September. It is the same rule that allows players to be injury replacements. So you are correct.

If its that long I don't think Rogers will pitch this year.

Little off subject but what do you guy's think about the Tigers maybe throwing a hat into the ring for Clemens now that Kenny went on the DL. I mean Ilitch has shown with the Red Wings if he thinks he can win it all he will spend the money. Now please dont flame the hell out of me for just wondering ok..lol

Clemens agent said there are 3 teams he will consider. Yankees, Red Sox and Astros.

So if miner has better stuff.... why are we calling up durbin?

So if miner has better stuff.... why are we calling up durbin?

Probably because those that saw him (Leyland, Dombrowski, Chuck) in the spring felt he could do the job.

A good mind frame is contagious. Personally I think Durbin is going to be a pleasant suprise and fill in admirably.

If clemens came here... wow. Not going to happen but wow.

Better stuff does not always translate to being a better pitcher. It's more about being able to locate your pitches.

I haven't seem much of Durbin. I know his change-up is excellent. His other pitchers were mediocre in the past. He developed a two seamer and a cutter last year. They worked for him in Toledo. We'll see what happens in the majors.

At some point, Clemens is going to tank. I'd bet that point is now. I'd pass on him. He'd sell a few tickets, but tickets don't equal wins.

No idea it's a real head scratcher, Durbin has already flopped multiple times, Miner pitched some really good games last year, and has more upside, and is 4 years younger.

To me, this isn't Durbin vs Miner. Durbin was already slated to be on the roster, Miner wasn't. We simply bumped Durbin from the long relief role to the rotation. Miner has options and can stay in the minors until needed.

Really, I think this becomes a Durbin vs Ledezma question. Why move Durbin to the rotation? Why not Ledezma, who did pretty well in that role last year. Really as good as Miner did. In keeping Seay on the roster, we now have another "lefty" for the bullpen, if that's important (not sure that it is). So moving Ledezma theoretically wouldn't adversely affect our pen, even though I don't think Ledezma was going to be used as a specialist by any means.

I'm just saying, I don't know if I'd move Ledezma or Durbin to the rotation... but I know that I wouldn't put Miner there at this point in the season.

From what I hear, Durbin was solid in spring training and last year in AAA. I don't see a problem giving him a shot here.

Has anyone read if Durbin will start game 5 or if Bonderman will come back since they had the off day yesterday?

I thought Durbin would have to pass waivers to go back to the minors. Am I correct? If that is the case, then that is the reason they kept him vs. Miner.

Yeah, that's true. And to answer the question, what I've heard is that Durbin will start Saturday.

that's correct, but it doesn't explain why he was put in the rotation over Ledezma.

really it doesn't matter to me, but it seems like the organization has soured a bit on Ledezma. they're giving a journeyman with little upside a crack at the rotation. plus, they aren't going to give Ledezma any opportunities at highly leveraged situations out of the pen, since they don't see him as a lefty specialist. so this essentially just makes him a long reliever. that's fine, but i'd like to see him given more of a shot.

either way, i'd wager that Ledezma will get a handful of starts this season. i just wonder why he didn't get first crack.
