This roster is a little shaky. I thought Larish and Thomas would be assigned to Erie but it does have Miller listed.

This last year's roster...it hasn't been updated at all yet.

Micro is correct. There is no way this roster is current. From everything I have heard around here:

Miller and Maybin will be here in Lakeland.
Larish and Thomas will go to Erie.
I also expect to see Trahern there.
Wilkin Ramirez will be playing LF in Lakeland instead of his usual 3B (he changed his swing as well. I hope his foot is fully healed now).

That means that the OF should be Ramirez, Maybin, and Joyce. I imagine Dusty Ryan will be catcher. I am curious, however, to see who will be playing 2B and SS.

EDIT: I was quick to post here; I do see this is preliminary. But I still decided to post what I have been hearing around here in Lakeland.

Justice ought to crowd that outfield a little more. Ramirez needs to learn the position, but he's almost certain to be the worst outfielder of the three. Rotating DH? Wilkin could always fix the problem by getting hurt, of course.

That Roster is not only preliminary, it is totally incorrect. Justice will certainly have a chance. Borquin will most likely hold 3B, Hollimon at 2B and Cotto will see some 1B time, but most likely spend some time on the bench and allow Roberson or Strieby some time on 1B. Ryan will Catch though who knows who else will share those duties this year. I would have guessed Sizemore at SS, but with Tony G out, ythat is uncertain and he may start higher. I would doubt if we would see Audi in Lakeland. Could it be Mark Haske? Rameriz, Maybin and Joyce securing L C and R.

Hollimon will not be in Lakeland. At least the last I heard he is jumping to Erie.

...Cotto will see some 1B time, ...and allow Roberson or Strieby some time on 1B...

I would think the more accurate scenario, if Strieby is in Lakeland... is that Strieby get 90% of the playing time at 1st base, and Roberson fills in at DH and 1st base only when Strieby gets a day off.

Couple related questions to anyone in the know:

Does Strieby jump from Oneonta to Lakeland?
Who plays 1st at West Mich... Strieby, or Carlson? Or "other"?
Any chance Carlson leapfrogs Strieby to Lakeland? (I doubt it... thought I'd ask anyways...)

Cotto will see some 1B time

IF he's still with the organization. Fodder like him may be the victim of a numbers crunch...

There is a chance that Strieby will be at 1B in Lakeland though... I just have it as him in WM with Roberson/Hunt/Hernandez? at 1B in Lakeland right now.....

Its possible. There are going to be some cuts this spring thats for sure.

Last night I emailed my 2007 Little League team's rosters to all of the kids' parents. Two hours later, every parent had been to my house to complain about the list. "But it is only preliminary!", I pleaded. Mr. Anderson complained that some of the kids were now thirteen and no longer eliigible for the team. I explained that there were a few new names, kids who had moved into the neighborhood that I wanted to include. Melissa Gilbert, who lives down on Prairie Street, dutifully mentioned there were some kids who shouldn't move up and should play another year on the same team. Mr. Lewis, of the News and official team photographer, provided his wise thoughts on the issue.

I now realize I was wrong to send out that email. Heck, the kids aren't done with the tryouts yet. I've learned my lesson. Next year, I won't jump the gun. Yes, it is always fun to talk about where these kids will play this year but I think I will keep any roster, preliminary or otherwise to myself until I can give everyone an official roster.

And yes, I somehow find Melissa Gilbert attractive. Of course, her (reel) mother was what we used to call "handsome". Her (real ,not reel) grandfather was nothing to sneeze at either (and if anyone knows that reference, please post it and if correct, my hat is off to you!).

My hat is off to you and egg on my face. For years, I was told that her grandfather or great-grandfather was the character actor Billy Gilbert. He appeared in a number of movies and often played a bumbling character. He was famous for his long, loud ,drawn out sneeze and was the inspiration and voice for Sneezy is SW and the 7D.

I guess the failed coonection was that her grandfather was in show business and the common last name of Gilbert.

Can I start this day over? On top of everything else, after two days of people out jogging in shorts and T shirts, it is snowing quite hard in Central Ohio.

Hopefully Leyland means extended Spring Training, because a 40 year old coming off shoulder surgery has no business on an A-Ball roster where there are so few roster spots to go around.

You might be able to tell a lot now that the MiST games have begun. Who is played today v. Houston for the Low A, A, AA and AAA teams? Anyone know? I think AA/AAA were away vs. Houston, while the Low A/A were at home?

How did the teams look Saturday and today ?

Watching Spring Training I think their are going to be more then a few surprises when the Lakeland Flying Tigers roster is announced.

Streiby, Bourquin,Boesch, Sizemore, Fein, Nickerson are all having a strong spring training. It should be interesting to see what the organization does with
these big strong advanced college players from major colleges.

Interesting. I don't doubt you, just wondering where you got your information from. Have you been watching? Talking to someone in the organization? If you're not comfortable answering that's fine...just wondering.

It seems to me that Boesch will have a tough time cracking Lakeland because of their crowded outfield (Joyce, Justice, Ramirez and that other guy). Other than that, if Strieby, Bourquin and Sizemore perform well, I don't see much blocking their way. Tough for me to imagine Strieby making the jump though, the way he struggled with the transition to the pros. Glad to hear he's doing well though...perhaps he's made adjustments.

I thought Strieby was a lock for 1B in Lakeland until this last weekk and I have only seen him with the WM grouping led by Brookens, Same with Borquin and Boesch. Sizemore is still being evaluated by the upper staff.

I had been hearing Linares would be the starter, rather than Haske....but neither is a significant upgrade over the other, so it doesn't really matter.

Hollimon HAD to go to Erie if he is one you are talking about (I know he is a non-pitcher). They had to find out what they had with him and they weren't going to learn much with him at Lakeland. Really he wasn't challenged too much with the MWL last season. This year he is closer to playing at the correct level versus his age.

Josh is realistic and know he can handle it. The nature of talent we have accumulated the last few years. Wish I could give an honest evaluation. Seems he only pitched on the road for me. Same with Ardoin, only one time this Spring and Rusch only once.

Hollimon is a much more valuable player with his move to 2B. His offensive upside will prove him much dividends in the future. Switch hitting creates more value for him. I'm not real experienced with the AA season and competition, but, from what I saw in ST, he'll do very well in Erie this season. IMHO, he's a prototypical 2 hole hitter and that's where he'll start out in the lineup. He should be a very excited young man with great opportunity with the jump to Erie.
