The dude had honked me off with his bashing of Darko a couple of years back. Not the he didn't deserve it, but come on, he was 19 at the time and in a new country, give the kid a break no matter how you feel about his game.

But i'll tell ya.

I just savor every moment of Caputo talking Tiger baseball weather he I agree or not with his opinion. He's a fan no matter what he claims and I feed off and really get into it. He came on tonight for an hour or so, then the Tiger game with the Ordonez walk off homer against Oakland was replayed, so I had to build a fire, pull out the wine, and I sat outside with the oldgirl knocking back a couple bottles of Michigan's finest listening to Pat and then 9 innings of Tiger baseball getting into it bigtime.

I love listening to Caputo talk baseball. I've grown to really enjoy his take, sometiems I disagree with him(trade ideas sometimes), but for the most part he knows his stuff. Hate the Spartan love though :)

The other dude Dennis whatever knows crap though. I remember last July he was proposing trading Maybin and Miller, and Sanchez for Soriano. Eh.

When I was last in detroit, I happened to flip on the sports station and there was Caputo talking about how Harrington was going to be a good QB real soon.

That's really all you need to know.

That and his incessant talking about how Michigan State is just as good as Michigan in football. that was always fun to listen to.

I don't listen to talk radio because they are all hacks. I have heard Caputo and he is no different.

I agree. Not only are they hacks but they talk about meaningless crap a majority of the time it seems.

I listen to sports talk radio all the time, and IMO Caputo is the best around. Even when I don't agree with what he says I enjoy listening to him because I like to hear him articulate his opinions. At least he can do that, not just shout everyone down when they disagree. And I don't mind the Spartan love, you can't blame him for being an alum, and he's honest about the various MSU programs at least.

When it comes to baseball, I could listen to him talk forever. I think it's a shame he's not on the radio more often, but I try to catch him when he is.

Caputo knows his stuff, but his radio personality rubs me the wrong way. He's too combative for my tastes. He flies off the handle too readily in my opinion.

I think he's two steps above moron. His idea of winning an argument is to yell louder than the other guy and repeat the same thing over and over until the other person gives up. He isnt the "book" on sports, he isnt even the Cliffsnotes on sports.

He really grew on me last year with his baseball talk and I couldn't wait to hear his opinion on something, and I told him so. Any other topic, and he's is a bully, but I'll give him a pass due to his adding so much to his post game Tiger chats last season...It was nice catching him yesterday, I also wish he was one more often.

I like that while the Tigers were not good, he still talked baseball and anyone that talks baseball for baseball's sake is fantastic in my mind. I disagree with him and I don't think he knows everything on the topic, but I do enjoy when he first mentioned Camron Maybin and how we should draft him, before the draft. He likes to talk baseball which a lot of people do not and will spend a whole Saturday afternoon doing so, despite us being a great team or a poor team.

He seems pretty arrogant, and a bit biased at times (even though he calls himself "the crowned prince of impartiality"). But he has been around the block a few times, and he's one of the only local guys that really loves talking about baseball, so he's not all bad.

iceteebone, he's on AM 1270, usually 6-7 weekdays, midday on weekends

He also writes for the Oakland Press. Here's a link to his blog and a little article from it. From there you can find past articles I'm sure. Is he still doing the "Monday night Meatheads" show with Spindler?

Lakeland And Spring Training Is A Joy

I remember the first time I went to spring training. It was 1986. I had covered high schools at The Oakland Press the first two years I was with the paper and was on the Pistons beat when, after camp was already under way, I was being placed on the Tigers beat. I had never been to Lakeland before. I just remember seeing the films from there on the TV news. It always meant hope - that spring was on the way. Being a part of it was a dream come true. I have spent roughly three years of my life living in Lakeland. I guess you could say it is my home away from home. When I was on the Tigers beat for 13 years, I spent seven weeks each spring there. Now my stays are shorter. I was at the Tigers Fantasy Camp for a week and will be in Lakeland for a week doing columns and working on stories for our baseball special section in March. I always look forward to it. Lakeland is a good town. I have come to like and respect it very much. It’s not an exciting town, but it is a part of our tradition as much as anything in Michigan. Once in awhile people ask me if it is worth visiting. My answer is yes. Actually, I cannot imagine being a true baseball fan from Michigan and not going there at least once. And for the ultimate baseball geek experience, I recommend going to a Gulf Coast League game in July in Lakeland. They start at noon. The temperature is usually in the 90s with the humidity above 90 percent. You will, I promise, sweat. You will also get an real understanding of just how difficult it is for a player to go through the minors and reach the major leagues. I do find major spring training games boring and meaningless. It is impossible to get an accurate gauge on players. Scouts who don’t understand that are in trouble.

He isnt the "book" on sports, he isnt even the Cliffsnotes on sports.

That was funny, nice job!

Comparitively speaking, when it comes to baseball, he's the best on the radio, but I don't think he is quite as knowledgeable as he thinks he is, he still puts out an enjoyable show, though.

I like the Book and listen to him all the time although I am not sure why. He has about four topics he hammers (Darko sucks, Millen sucks, etc) into the ground. I swear there are times during the Lions season where he does the same show day after day. Its kind of hypnotic in a way.

I don't mind Caputo. What I hate is how 1270 moved "The Big Show with Doug and (now it is Scott "Gator" Anderson)" to daytime and put Valentie and Sharp on from 3-6. I can't stand Valentie or Sharp.

The Inferno is the best show on the radio.

I love Caputo.

I love Anderson.

I don't like Karsch so much.

I can't stand Dennis Fithian, he is horrible and knows almost nothing about sports.

Here's a Caputo opinion on D.Y.

http://patcaputo.blogspot.com/

There has been much talk about how Jim Leyland blasted Dmitri Young in a meeting with writers in Lakeland on Tuesday. It was in response to Young essentially saying the Tigers, by releasing him, abandoned him when he had several personal issues to face in 2006.
In reality, it could have been much worse. Leyland said he liked Dmitri Young. General manager Dave Dombrowski said the same thing. The question is, why? He was a cancer in the Tigers clubhouse. It was plan and simple. He got a big-money contract and then didn’t take care of himself physically, and it led to eroding skills. His ego was out of control. Off the field, he went to court on a domestic violence change. He had a good year and handled himself well when the Tigers were failing in 2003. Other than that, he did little in Detroit to justify the four-year, $28 million contract the franchise rewarded him. It was embarrassing, when the option kicked in for the 2006 season, the way Young left the clubhouse literally minutes after games in 2005. Last season, when the Tigers got on a roll, they had one, lone distraction - Young. He was unprofessional in every way. When the Tigers released him, it was addition by subtraction.

Last summer before the trade deadline, I remember Caputo absolutely lambasting anyone who called and suggested that Sean Casey might be a good fit for the Tigers. He basically made callers sound like complete idiots for suggesting such a thing: "We're not going to get Sean Casey, so please stop calling in with these ridiculous notions" he said to quite a few people.

I will give him this, though: After the Tigers traded for Casey, Caputo admitted he was wrong, and accepted the criticism of fans who called in to remind him of how adament he was that we wouldn't be getting Sean.

I love the fact that Pat likes to talk Tiger baseball. Of course, I would enjoy it if Tarzan talked Tiger baseball.

I wish he would have been right about Casey.

In fairness, the Casey trade seemed good at the time. I don't think the fact that he sucked so terribly could've been predicted. Considering what we gave up and what we needed, it was an excellent deal to make and I would make it 100 times over if the same circumstances existed.

I think Caputo is the best baseball opinionist in town.
He DOES know his stuff. He makes mistakes! Most of us are wrong sometimes too. AFter all, how many of you guys picked the Tigers to be in the WS last season?

His opinion is just that, and more times than not he's right.
His knowledge about baseball is more than any sports analyst in town.

I agree with this. He's also about the only guy on Detroit sports radio that doesn't sound like he's playing some act.
