so I'll join the party.

OU and Micro get to talk about their book coming out. The Lee Panas blog. The many pictures of Hueytaxi, etc...

I thought I would take the time to promote the birth of my first child, Lucius James Sidney_N_OK, born yesterday morning. He is 7 lbs 11 oz, 19.5 inches. Mrs. S_N_O did this naturally, without drugs and with a midwife. SHE IS THE REAL SUPERSTAR!!! Both are resting comfortably and both very healthy. Mrs. S_N_O called him Pudge most of last season which is why this should be in the Tigers section. I have thoroughly enjoyed this board for the last 3.5 years even though I rarely post and I know it is corny (and something I told myself I wouldn't do) but I wanted to introduce the newest addition to the Tiger family: C Luke Shackford.

Gotta start'em when they're young. Tigers wil proabably still need a catcher in 20 years, anyways.

Congrats, Pappy! A few unsolicited tips:

* When you're changing dirty diapers, try to occupy your mind with something else. Try to picture Derek Jeter's smug face -- a dirty diaper will seem pleasant by comparison!!!

* The old adage is that being a catcher is the fastest route to the big leagues. But that's the bunk -- learn that boy from Day One how to be a left-handed pitcher. And if he happens to have been born right-handed....well, train him to be a lefty! Tie down his right hand! Do what it takes. He'll thank you for it.

* Don't bother with those cute little stuffed baseballs they make for babies. Get him an official Rawlings major league hard ball and put it in his crib. Get him used to holding it in his hand -- his left hand! -- from the very beginning. When he cries, give him the baseball. Teach him that the baseball is his friend.

* Forget Goldilocks or Little Red Riding Hood -- instead, regale your boy with bedtime stories about how the 1968 Tigers came back from a 3-1 deficit to slay Bob Gibson and the Cardinals...and how the 1984 Tigers went wire-to-wire...and how Ty Cobb was one of the top two or three greatest players of all time. There's enough rich Tiger history to keep him in bedtime stories until he's 17.

* Above all, you must instill into your son early on the notion that he should hate the Yankees with every fiber of his being.

But shouldn't he wait to find out if the kid is crafty or not first?

A better strategy is to do a really awful job of it a few times - for example, put the disposable on inside out, put the tapes onto his tummy rather than the diaper, you get the picture. After a few times she will get fed up and just say, "forget it! I'll just do it!" Then you are in the clear.

In a future episode I will explain how to get out of vacuuming by pretending youa re driving a Zamboni.

I learned a lesson just this weekend with my 9 month old. If I'm going to practice my hook shot by lobbing dirty diapers at the pail from 10 ft away, from now on I'm going to make sure the tabs of the diaper are fastened first! Think back to the Tigers pitchers throwing to the bases during the World Series. Now imagine if it had been poop rather than baseballs being thrown errantly past Inge and Casey. You get the picture.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I will learn to download the pics so you guys can see him. Funny that you all said LHP. Mrs. S_N_O's grandfather played minor league baseball and was a LHP, although he does almost nothing else lefthanded. He eats, writes and plays golf righthanded. I have always loved this time of year because of spring training and everything it represents.

Again, many thanks and for those who I mentioned as self promoting, you guys deserve to be. All of you are excellent at what you self promote: OU and Micro are unbelievable with the minors and draft; Lee - the blog is incredible; Huey - the rest of us check this site everyday just to see the pics because most of us are very cold and yearn for those warm, sunny days and anything baseball.

I read this thread to Mrs. S_N_O and she thanks you guys as well. Thanks.

Congrats, Sidney and Mrs. Sidney.........and son! Remember, you're not a good parent unless your son knows what the infield fly rule is by the age of 3. Start those subliminal instructions SOON!

Congrats Sid. My wife went the exact opposite of natural child birth (I blame the Doctors, the Nurses...and of course my daughter for not wanting to come out).

Kids are awesome and frustrating, usually at the same time. I hope you didn't like sleeping through the night.....

I was quite happy to see last fall that my nephew is bringing his youngest girl up right. Unfortunately, I am afraid that she is learning to throw a spitter. :cheeky:
