Mostly for marketing purposes. Lakeland has a lot of history in the aviation industry though. Check this out:

Today's Ledger has an ad for our 1st Friday Downtown Lakeland Nights. In addition to the shops open late and an old car show, the Lakeland Tigers will be featured around the shops. (????)

Nice, sounds like the community is going to get behind the team. I hope that brings some results in attendance.

Does the ???? stand for no mention of "Flying" Tigers and/or that officially the 2007 Flying Tigers aren't yet determied?

My screw up...The Lakeland Flying Tigers are scheduled to be featured in the various downtown shops Friday night and subsequent 1st Fridays each month. My ???? was referencing who that might be at this early stage in ST. Sorry Shannon (LFT)!

They basically went over the weekly promotions, showed some of the new merchandise and went over the dates for the fan club's activities they have planned, forget the dates off the top of my head.

You're right. It's been a while since I shopped for a lid. My 3 Lakeland hats are now obsolete. And they want $24 for a t-shirt. Time to whip out the Visa.

Thanks for pointing out the new lid being available. I have been checking for a while. Gotta update (add) the new lid to the collection.

i was at Joker Marchant for the first time last Saturday. we had to park way the heck out back, near some khaki colored storage buildings. we wondered if these had possibly been airport hangars, given that they had extremely wide sliding doors-the kind that would accomodate larger aircraft like bombers or transports. any idea?

I believe I remember Roger mentioning that many of the buildings used to be hangars, so I would expect they were.

Lodwick Airfield (their management) had a contract with the USAAC to train pilots at the current site in Tigertown. I think over 4000 pilots came through Lakeland during WWII. The concrete strip separating the MLB field from the minors was one of several active runways. Three hangers remain today that are used by the city for park maintenance and also for entertainment purposes. Original CB dorms are used for the minor league players. We also raced sports cars on the complex in the 70's when we could afford the insurance without a national organization backing us.

i'm glad to have been a part of the Tiger's Lakeland history last Suturday (i was one of the record 9,100+ in attendance)I've been there with 8,700+ and while I appreciate the support of our Tigers, I'm glad I wasn't there. Traffic leaving Joker must have been a total logjam. Even on non game days, you have trouble getting into downtown with increased traffic and Lakeshore closed for repairs.
