On www.mudhens.com they have updated their roster.For the Pitchers they have Bob Seay,Brian Boehringer,Chad Durbin,Corey Hamman,Dennis Tankersley,Eugolio DeLaCruz,Felix Heredia,Jason Karnuth,Jordan Tata,Lance Davis,Preston Larrison,Virgil Vasquez.Catchers Dane Sardinha,Mike Rabelo,Infielders Chris Maples,Jack Hanahan,Kevin Hooper,Kody Kirkland,Mike Hessman,Ramon Santiago,Outfielders Ryan Raburn,Brandon Watson,Brent Clevlen,David Espinosa.
I thought they released Boehringer and BA has Durbin listed as 6yr free agent. Were does that leaveJon Connolly,Ian Ostlund,,Danny Zell or any other Erie or Lakeland Pitchers promotions.

Final rosters won't be complete until after spring training, but I imagine that will be a very close representation of the Mud Hens for '07.

Chad Durbin is on the Tiger's 40 man roster....not a 6 year minor league free agent like BA says. He won't be a free agent of any kind, he'll probably get claimed by somebody when he's waived the end of March. Santiago would have to clear waivers to make it to Toledo as well. Boehringer is part of the list that would still have to be resigned, unless he did and we didn't see it yet. Others from the roster above that I don't think have resigned with Detroit are Davis and Hannahan. I think Ostlund, Zell and Connolly must be 6 year free agents, but I haven't seen anything conclusive on that, either.

In the past, the rosters were updated around the Rule 5 draft because the Tigers had to submit an updated roster for Toledo and Erie to MLB for purposes of the draft. They were usually updated on their official sites or at MiLB. This year, I never saw any update. My guess is Toledo finally posted their update and included recent transactions like re-signing Bobby Seay.

I checked Erie and I don't think their roster has been updated.

Don't they place players on Toledo roster to sort of protect them?? I thought Ramon Santiago signed a contract w/Tigers & it didn't say minor league contract did it?? Didn't Seay sign with someone else??

Yeah, Santiago signed a major league deal. He can still be sent to Toledo though, but he'd have to clear waivers.

As far as protecting them, the only way to do that is to place them on the 40-man roster as far as I'm aware. I'm no very knowledgeable on that, though.

grandma g - Bobby Seay signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on 22 December as posted by Mattie in the MLB Transactions (2006-2007) post #155 dated 26 December.

Yoda answered the question about protecting players. If you still have a specific question, please restate and we'll try again to answer. There are 40 man-roster rules and Rule 5 rules that could be described, but I don't know if that's what you are asking or not.

I thought I remember asking one of our guys when I saw their name on a AAA roster in Dec, and that is the explination they gave me, is on AAA roster, then another team woud have to keep them @ AAA level for the year, or something like that....we all know that the rosters will not be set until S, but maybe this is an "internal" way to get around it? Maybe this isn't it at all but know it was something like that as I get really excited to see names @ AAA level then disappointed when they told the reason, but if it is true, than good for the guys..guess I really missed the Seay signing...thanks...

You are talking about the Minor League roster adjustments done before the Rule 5 draft in Early December. There's a Major League Phase and a Minor League Phase to that draft. What you are talking about is the Minor League phase where teams can draft eligible players (I don't know the eligibility rules, I think alot of things changed this year with the new players agreement)from other teams at each level of the Minor Leagues. Franchises can "protect" a certain number of players at each level and if another drafts them they would have to keep them at that level. I am not sure the specifics of Rule 5 and what changes were made this year. Somebody posted a link to the new players agreement before the Rule 5 draft this year, but I don't remember where it is. I don't believe there was a great deal of moving roster assignments this December because of eligibilty changes this year, but again, not sure.

What CanTig pointed out is that the Toledo website updated their roster this week with the best information they have today regarding recent free agent signings at the Minor League level. Toledo is the only website that made some updates from what I can tell. It's just a best guess coming out of each team's winter meetings, I think. Nothing is set until the end of ST.
