We had this post buried in the off-season diary, but want more people to be aware that we have one open seat left at a VIP table if anyone is intersted. Ticket is $100 and you will get your share of the raffle tickets, a ticket to the afterglow, and all of the VIP extras. PM me or Mr. G for details.
There's plenty of reasons to go, about 11 to be exact. I was personally hoping for more of the actual Whitecaps, but getting all these Tigers isn't too shabby:
COMSTOCK PARK, MI * DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids is going to resemble the home dugout at Comerica Park on Wednesday, January 17 when the Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan makes a stop at the Whitecaps Winter Baseball Banquet. Jim Leyland, the 2006 American League Manager of the Year, and Tom Brookens, the ‘Caps new manager, will serve as the night’s keynote speakers. Several big name Tigers are also scheduled to join them, including American League Championship Series MVP Placido Polanco and American League Rookie of the Year Justin Verlander. Other Tigers slated to attend the Banquet include Mike Maroth, Chris Shelton, Craig Monroe, Marcus Thames, Vance Wilson, Gene Lamont, Lloyd McClendon and Rafael Belliard. The Whitecaps Banquet will be the Tigers only public appearance in Grand Rapids.

If this is you first one, you will be overwhealmed....bring lots of $$ if you plan on placing bids for the silent auction items but the 'live' auction is always a hoot! Whomever the Tigers bring will be great! Hopefully some former Whitecaps too, "slated to attend" means there can be lots of changes but they will all be welcomed! I have attended all of them and they just keep getting bigger & better & for worth causes too!

I went over to the ballpark today to pay off my season ticket thanks to Christmas money from family (yay!!!!). I asked if there would be any Whitecaps there, and the answer was that no, they didn't think any were scheduled to come. Of course the latest list had been from December 26, so you never know. I decided that I would get the Tigers members to sign the rally towel my brother in law gave me from the World Series. I thought that would be more fun than having them sign a baseball.

I shall have an authentic MLB baseball in tow, along with camera.
Being at a VIP table we get some raffle tickets- what kinds of things have been part of the raffle in years past?

TV's, etc....gift baskets....maybe golf packages, gift certificates...can't remember them all...hey, you don't have to be at a VIP table to get raffle tickets, we all can buy them..the more you buy the better your chances....LOTS of stuff & tons of fun....remember it is "Business Attire" so whatever business you are in! LOL!

oh, I'm upping the ante higher than business attire, there simply isn't enough opportunities to get really dressed up these days.
Good call on the camera and the rally towel for signatures is a GREAT idea. We have two white from the A's series and two orange from the Yankees series.
I just wish some of the boys were going to be there, at least the Haskes...

What's business attire when you are retired?
House coat?

Sandals with black socks?

Anything that "sparkles"...... but really think the Front Office just want everyone to look nice!! It IS a big event, and bet after this one, you won't miss any others....you see your ballpark friends, ushers, workers, front office staff and everyone has the same thing on their mind, "BASEBALL" and the start of the season is just around the corner!!

I was there with my mother in law for the 2000 banquet, and still have the pics with Lance Parrish and the whiffle ball bat. That was the beginning of my unexplainable crush on Robert Fick, that has, fortunately, passed.
I will for sure be wearing my "whitecaps" rhinestone pin.
Glad we will be seeing Larry, but hoping to spend some quality time with Toby too.
