Read on Cot's Baseball Contracts where Neifi Perez is due to make 2.5 million for 07'. Is this true? Are the Tigers actually on the hook with him for this much money for 07'?
IF true, do the Tigers keep him because of the money or cut him and take the hit? Seems like they had the same player in Ramon Santiago for a lot less money.

Yes, it's true. I think they will cut him. DD and/or Leyland simply screwed this one up. Hopefully they won't be stubborn about keeping him.

Maybe we can move him to third (platoon him with Rogers: both would be better than Inge), Inge to first, Polanco to short, and Guillen to DH?

If they'd choose Santiago over Perez in the World Series, I can't see how they wouldn't make the same decision for the 2007 regular season. That seems to indicate that Perez's chances of making the team are essentially zero. If anyone's willing to pay him anything, he'll be traded along with a lot of cash for nothing. Otherwise, he'll have to be cut.

This might be the funniest post I've ever read. And not the good kind of funny.

I was thinking maggs to short...but I like the way you're thinking...why not try to capitalize on our team's versitility.

If these adjustments cannot be made, Leyland really should have the starting nine line up at the edge of the dugout and race each other to the desired positions (with exceptions for the pitcher and maybe the catcher).

Anyway, to get this subject back on track: Can we break our piggy banks, pool our money together and somehow guarantee that Neifi goes home?

When I saw this post, I honestly was going to just open it and post "he sucks" but you beat me to it.

I think if they make a deal this offseason, Perez will be a throw in and the Tigers will pick up the majority of his salary for 2007. Either that, or they cut him and eat his salary. Either way, I can't see him in a Detroit uniform next year.

Leyland will make him starting SS next year and he will hit 4th :classic:

The $5M being shelled out to Neifi really pisses me off.....and it's not even my money!

I sense a bit of sarcasm there. But I tell you what, there's a wackiness within me that wants to see Rogers used in the OF in the end of a 17 inning game in an NL park because the rest of the positional players have been used up.

True. But he sucks about $2.5 million more than most of us.

On his off days, I'd like to see Rodgers standing beside our pitcher on the mound as the DF. (designated fielder)

Neifi Perez has made $18,481,500 during his baseball career through last month. I **** you not.

If they cut him, are they on the hook for ALL of this salary or just a portion?

I am in the wrong line of work. I could go out there and hit ground outs to the pitcher just as good as he could.

Here, try this one on your imagination: of all players with at least 5,000 plate appearances in their careers, Neifi is the second-worst hitter of all-time, in terms of Offensive Winning Percentage (an extract of Runs Created) -- and it's a really, really close race for #1:
OWP OWP PA
1 Ski Melillo .284 5536
2 Neifi Perez .285 5439
3 Ed Brinkman .288 6640
4 Tim Foli .295 6573
5 Pete Suder .296 5473
6 Leo Durocher .302 5827
7 Everett Scott .307 6373
8 George McBride .309 6234
9 Wally Gerber .313 5816
10 Rey Sanchez .316 5246
Given that Neifi's last five years of OWP were .170., 279., .299., .332 and .215, Neifi has an excellent chance to nab the top spot next year.
Notice who's right behind Neifi on this list?

That's a special list - guys who were really horrible but managed to have careers of 12 to 15 years anyway. Off the top of my head I wouldn't have said that Brinkman was that bad, but there it is.
It's interesting that there are only 2 active guys on this list, Neifi and the truly disgusting Rey Sanchez. I think that there is a lot less tolerance these days for the good-field/no-hit type of middle infielder. There are still plenty of them, but they don't get the long careers.

As I'm sure you know, that's because there is so much offense in the game today that a team usually can't afford to have one of them in the line-up. These types of players used to be a lot more useful when there were a lot of low scoring games.

Could this possibly have been serious?
Edit:
Happy to see that no, it wasn't. :)

Well they always say that those who can't do something, end up being a really good teacher at it. So I suggest Neifi be bumped to our new, health and fitness trainer, new hitting coach, new fielding coach and anything else coach that Neifi sucks at. I think we'd be getting one heck of a deal for 2.5 million.

When we acquired Neifi I thought it was only to be a "fill in player" here and there for when Palonco got hurt. Problem was, he played WAY too much over Infante.... WAY WAY WAY too much, and that's what I can't stand.
