To die for? MLB fans can take team devotion to grave
PHILADELPHIA -- Many crazed baseball fans have said they would die for a championship. And now they can take their devotion to the grave.
A new venture will put Major League Baseball team logos on urns and caskets.
The league and Eternal Image, a company that makes funeral products, will let fans be decked out in their team colors and logos for eternity.
Starting next season, Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies, Cubs and Dodgers fans will be able to have cremation urns or their caskets emblazoned with their team colors and insignia.
Major League Baseball has entered into a licensing agreement with Eternal Image, which hopes to eventually make urns and caskets with for all 30 teams.
The company also hopes to have agreements with NASCAR, the NHL and the NFL.

I think it'd be nifty to have it on the headstone but not the casket.

How 'bout this idea:
Creating Diamonds From Human Ashes
LifeGem uses human ashes to synthesize diamonds
Created diamonds aren't new. Gem quality diamonds have been synthesized in the lab for some time and are showing up in many sales catalogs. But a company called LifeGem (TM) has come up with a unique twist on diamond creation. They create gemstones from carbon that's captured during the cremation of human remains.

I wonder if they will have specialized ones such as the Ted Williams (you supply the joke) or the A-Rod (you supply the joke).
The reason I bring this up is that CostCo sells coffins (http://www.costco.com/Common/Category.aspx?ec=&pos=2&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=20596&eCat=BC|20595|20596) and some of the models are kinda funny-sounding:
The Edward
The Josephine
The Mother
The Kentucky Rose

My dad, who's a funeral director, says that there have been "generic" version of these things for a while now. No logo or anything, but sports themed none-the-less. The company he works for sells about 1 every two years or so he said.

Starting next season, fans of the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers will be able to have their ashes put in an urn or head six feet under in a casket emblazoned with their team colors and insignia.
Kurt Soffe, a spokesman for the funeral association, said the MLB caskets are part of a trend of trying to capture "the life and the passions of the person that has passed away." At this year's convention, for instance, there was a Harley Davidson-themed casket and one featuring Betty Boop.
"More and more families are wanting to have something that respects the personalities," Soffe said.
Farmington Hills, Mich.-based Eternal Image, which also makes a line of Vatican-themed products, "wanted to break into a sports venue of some kind," said Clint Mytych, the company's CEO. "It is the all-American sport."
He said he has gotten at least 1,000 inquiries since June.
................Each urn will feature recognition of the deceased's passionate support, stamped with a message that says "Major League Baseball officially recognizes (person's name) as a lifelong fan of (team)."

Haha, i just read a story about this on ESPN and was going to mention it here. I think this is a great idea. I am such a deep fan of the Tigers that I wouldn't mind having this happen for me. Of course, I'm 22 so I'm not really looking for this to happen anytime soon. But I still think it's a cool idea. Here is the link for the ESPN story, but I think it is the same.
