View Full Version : Objectively, this series is too close to call.

First off let me say that I have been a very loyal Tigers fan, and have worn the Olde English D cap during many a dismal season, including the 2003 disaster. My heart roots for them, and they will always have my support!
That being said, lets look at this series objectively!! Oakland was not intimadated by a much better Twins team. They handled them very easily in a three game sweep, and have the home field advantage. On the other hand, the Tigers have the best road record in the majors, and were not intimidated by a much better Yankee squad who had their number throughout the regular season.
Both these teams have very strong pitching, and are very solid defensively!! Frank Thomas has always eaten us alive, with this past season being no exception. Our bullpen is the best in the league, and, if it gets to Zymyia and Jones, it will be lights out for Oakland! Here's hoping the Tigers have recovered from the celebration/hangover of Saturday's victory, and are ready to get back down to business again.
Bottom line, this series is just to close to call!! Both teams played extremely well in their last playoff round series, and both appear to be hungry and focused! Talent wise, I definetely give the edge to the Tigers, but that talent is only as good as how it produces once the pressure rises another level! All I got to say is this is going to be one hell of a series, and I predict the winner of it will take the World Series as well. The only other prediction I would go out on the limb to make regarding this series is that it will not be a sweep, one way or the other, but, even then, you just never know in the playoffs. GO TIGERS!!!

I agree wholeheartedly. This series is a total pick-em.

The pitching matchups should be great. Robertson still worrys me though.

I am sorry but I can't take you seriously as a fan when you misspell a name of a Tigers player so badly.

However I also think its going to be a close one. 6-7 games either way.

The weird thing in this, was that I thought that the Twins-A's was a toss up as well, and it ended up being not even close. That is baseball though. I think everybody is saying this is a toss up series too and I agree with that. I just hope we see great baseball by both teams and don't have it end up where one team falls pretty much flat and the other team dominates. Like the A's and Tigers did to their opponents in the divisonal series.
Of course, if the A's were to fall flat, I won't be complaining. ;)

I hope the A's fall flat on their face and the Tigers win in 4 tigersfanandm.... I don't care if we see great baseball from them.
However I agree it will be a long series.

I also don't think that the first game will tell how this series will go either. Anybody have the percentages on how often the winner of game one goes onto win the ALCS?

There is no big favorite but if both teams are playing their best, I think the Tigers will win. Statistically, the Tigers have better hitting, better pitching and better fielding. I think the only area where the Athletics have an edge is homefield advantage. Tigers in 6.

the yahoo sports people gave us the advantage, but still picked it A's to win it! Their reasoning was detroit ''spent too much energy with the yankees", and now it's ''oakland's time".
That's bull. we're gonna win.

Yeah, I'm not buying this either. Our series with the Yankees lasted all of one day longer than the A's series with the Twins, and with less travel. Zero games went to extra innings, and all but one were decided by four or more runs.
The bullpen wasn't really taxed, and nobody on our team aggravated injuries or suffered new ones.
Sorry, Yahoo. Try again.

Give the guy a break... could be just typo's from an overexcited poster... ("u" is right next to "y" on the keyboard... and as for the "yia"... dyslexyia? ... spelling impediment?).

I would say this:
If the Tigers win 1 of the 1st two games in Oakland... I think we win the series. Even if it goes 7.

If we win tonight, we probably win in 5. I don't think they're going to lose to Loiza, but Zito will be tough. Also consider this: Zito has been much better on the road than at home, and Haren has been much worse on the road than at home. But then again, it all comes down to the pitching. If they pitch anywhere near the way they did against the Yankees, it won't even be a series. I think our hitting will be able to hit and score runs off of the A's pitching. We just need to pitch.

I just find it impossible to predict baseball playoff series anyway. It does seem to be very close on paper though.

The majority of the "experts" are saying A's in 6...so that means it will be Tigers in 4.

Look, I have a reading disorder, and didn't have the time to look up how to spell Zoomer's name O.K.?

Just giving you a bad time. There is no reason to get sensitive about it since I did not know you had a reading disorder. Since you said that I am sorry for pointing it out.

I dont think the twins were a better team then the A's. The A's are a way better team then the Twins. I picked the A's in 4 over the Twins.

We have a better team than Oakland. We have all the confidence in the world.
It's all down to execution now. Let's go, you Tigers.

Well I picked a Tigers sweep, calling for at least a 7 game win streak. It has to start tonight, go get em Nate!
