hopefully we never have to see miner on the mound.
Or santiago or Perez at the plate either.

Leyland will find a way to get perez at the plate, just like he did today

I would. I think Shelton is done in Detroit. I thought that before this though.

I agree with you there. It is clear that Leyland dosen't like something in Shelton's swing, overall game, or personality.

Wow...Miner? Santiago?
Not only was Shelton given a good chance to make the roster, the right-handed hitter was viewed as a potential option at first base against left-handed pitchers. But Shelton had just one hit in September aside from his three-hit game against the Royals Sept. 23, and he struck out in each of his final four at-bats.
I call BS. Shelton was never given a fair shot. He was always put up against the likes of Santana and Mussina and never got into his groove. Terrible call, Leyland.

Well who do you think he's going to face in the playoffs?

That is quite a nifty point right there. Kudos to you.

Bah, Perez is on the team. That means theirs a shot he'll play at some point and time.
Shelton will be back next year.
He looks like he needs to be away from baseball right now. He's not the same player he was last year or early this year.

I for one am glad Santiago made it. I like his defense. Shelton is done.

Not only that, but when we traded for Neifi, he also came with a contract for 2007....so get used to it. ugh
I'll bet on the side that Shelton is not "done" with the Tigers.
Also, I'd just like to say that I think I'll vomit if Leyland ever starts Neifi or uses him as a pinch-hitter in the playoffs.

Perez has impressive numbers lifetime vs. Unit, and will probably play if he starts.

What's the point of having two utility infielders? It's the AMERICAN league. No double switches.

Shelton is useless at this point. At least with Santiago and/or Neifi, you can use them to pinch run or play multiple infield positions. Guillen will be the backup 1B, which will allow Casey to be pinch ran or hit for.

Just a guess, but since the only way to realistically replace Casey is by moving Guillen over to 1st you'd need another middle infielder. Perez was never in doubt so Santiago replaces Shelton because Guillen can go to 1st. Santiago fields well and gives the Tigers a left handed bat-- albeit a weak one. It makes Santiago instead of Shelton the "least bad" option.

I believe Leyland said Shelton is the 1st baseman of the future when he was sent down.

I take all of that with a grain of salt. Things change in a hurry and Leyland isn't the GM.
Plus he didn't want Shelton to go down there and pout. Its not like Leyland is going to say "Shelton doesn't adjust to what pitchers do to him and he is done with the Tigers."

I was a big Shelton backer but you know what, he absolutely blew it. I think he had hits in only one game he played in. Anyone have stats on how he did since back? I think he struck out like 75% of the time.

so will the guys who aren't on the roster be able to sit on the bench and in the bullpen during playoff games? seems to me they should be there

Indeed. He will be at SS and Guillen will be at first against the Unit.

Shelton looked horrible after his return, even against dud pitchers, I don't know what's wrong with him but I don't want to see it in the playoffs.
Of course, I don't want to see Ramon Santiago or Neifi Perez batting either.
