1. NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, expects us to take this series. I like the underdog role a LOT more than being favored.
2. ALL of the pressure is on New York to take this, there is very little pressure on us.
3. We will get to see the freaking New York Yankees come to DETROIT for one, hopefully two playoff games in OCTOBER!
4. Yankees aren't playing as hot as the Twins and Oakland are, let them beat each other up over there, then come face the winner of this.
5. The Yankee pitchers are a little banged up
6. We get to start with a CLEAN SLATE, and forget all the recent slumps both individual and team, and go start fresh with no expectations.
Anyone else care to add??

1.We are in the playoffs
2.the season is not over as of today
3.If we somehow take the series against the Yankees, I will not have to see a smirk on the face of a Yankee fan co-worker
4.Many on this board is already declaring a defeat, so there will be no jumping off bridges and committing suicide if we do not take this series.
5.We get to watch baseball with a team that matters to us.
6.It has still been a magical season. I will come away with wonderful memories of this season no matter what happens.

1. We play better on the road
2. We play better at night
3. The A's are hotter than the Yanks
4. We're the underdogs
Though, I'm very pissed that (1) I'm not guaranteed to go to the game I paid for, or (2) I won't be able to skip school if I do go.

Detroit was 20 games under .500 last year and 28 games over this season. Despite a crushing sweep at the hands of the hapless Royals I am thrilled with the season. I also love being the underdogs in this series and can't wait to hear about the greatness of Jeter during all of his at bats in the ALDS.

2. EVERYBODY outside of NYC will be rooting for us.
3. First time Tigers v. Yankees ever have played each other in the playoffs
4. Our weekday games will be in prime time for those of us poor schlubs who work.
5. We have the best road record in the AL
6. I can spend a whole weekend in Detroit instead of just one day

Since the title of this thread said "positives of all of this!" Then is this positives for the playoff series with the yanks or positives on how the whole season turned out? I'm going with the positives on how the whole season turned out and the future.
1. We were still a year away from even being in playoff contention based on many experts in the Tigers organization.
2. The young guys are gaining a ton of experience this year that they can use for the next several years. Experiencing disappointing or bad things like today, will help big time later on.
3. We have a hell of a future ahead of us as the farm system is finally producing talent.
4. We have deep deep deep pitching that many many other clubs do not have for the next few years.
5. Leyland is back next year!

1. We are in the playoffs.
2. The cameraman always pans some fine looking chicks at Yankee stadium.
3. The Singing Hot Dog Guy will be in full voice when the Tigers return from New York.
4. Every game from here on out is pure gravy on a great season.
5. Leyland is playoff savvy.
6. The team is hitting and staying focused will not be an issue.
7. We are underdogs and the Yankees will not take us seriously, giving us chances.
8. Joe Morgan's inane commentary will be managed more tactfully.
9. John Kruk might realize that there is actually a baseball team in Detroit.
10. We are going to be a force in the American league for years to come, so this is just the start.

Add to that an excellent owner who's willing to spend money for a winner. Even if we lose 3 straight to the Yankees, getting into the playoffs is excellent for the team in trying to improve in the offseason.
Ilitch has his 3 cups, and now he wants the World Series. This is just the beginning of a run of winning seasons.

Another one they just talked about on ESPN...
You have a much better chance of beating the Yankees in a 5 game series than a 7 game series. If we happen to win here, our odds are better for winning the pennant and going to the World Series.

Another good one....
We get Ledezma back in the bullpen for some great relief there...
Only one positive from all this collapse and Leyland's choke job is that Illitch and Dombrowski have to gut the team in the off-season. If they return with the same anemic club in the growing AL Central they will be in trouble.

DD on WXYT a couple weeks back said he already has players and agents of other teams calling saying their players would love to come to Detroit. Now when has THAT happened in the last 12 years where players and agents of players calling Detroit saying that before the season is even over? Of course he woudln't say who though.
Also the 1967 Tigers were 2nd place with 91 wins that year. The next year, they won it all and were 1st in their divison. Maybe the 2006 Tigers are like the 1967 Tigers?

The Tigers may not have won their first AL Central Title but Hey The Tigers won their First Ever Wild Card. That's something we can cross off of the list i guess. Hopefully we will be hungry for the division next year. Go Tigers.

1) Schedule for me personally. Instead of having to figure out how to get Tue/Wed afternoons off, I can relax and go Friday night.
2) Short series. I agree that it appears to be easier to win a 5 game than a 7 game.
3) Lessons. Maybe the players learned something this past week.
4) Underdog factor. They now have nothing to lose. The Yanks have all the pressure on them.
5) Pitching funk. The starters had their junk game. This is the first time all year the team lost 5 in a row. If this were game 140 instead of 163, you could be justified in saying they are due to snap out of it.
6) If they win one game, I get to go to a game on my birthday.

I just heard during lunch that Randy Johnson anytime he has back problems that aren't completely healed up that he has problems with being able to bend with his back and follow through with his pitches, which history says for him that he will keep the ball up when that happens. Tigers could tee off on that guy :)

No doubt players want to come here now. Ilitch is willing to spend the money, we have an excellent core of young arms, the Organization is on the rise, the Central Division isn't owned by the Yankees, the fans in Detroit are some of the best in North America, etc..
People shouldn't dwell on losing to KC, there's a lot of positives to take from this season. Even if we won the Division, realistically we still wouldn't make it past the ALCS. Winning the Division or Wild Card, this is a season where we are going to get some playoff experience, improve in the off season, come back hungry in 2007, and put together a run of atleast 5-7 years of exciting baseball.

Here's Mine!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Detroit's won as many games this year as the Yankees and Red Sox last year.
-Detroit did finish with the best ERA in baseball as a team in the American League — and it’s best division at that.
-Detroit’s defense ranks No. 1 in fielding runs.
-Randy Johnson, a power pitcher, is injured and might miss the round.
- Detroit has a lot of home run power!
-The Yankees are hittable, especially without Johnson.
-The Yankees have not seen Rogers all year!
-The 1997 Marlins managed by Leyland posted the same record in September as the Tigers this year!

in ESPN article of 100 reasons to watch the playoffs they had this.
21. Kyle Farnsworth. Guaranteed to cost the Yankees a game.
33. Joel Zumaya coming in with the bases loaded in a tie game in the bottom of the seventh to face Alex Rodriguez.

Remember that the last White Sox series the Tigers had IN Chicago, which was huge for both teams? The Tigers came through by winning that series and played great ball, even during when we were still appearing to be slumping and things still seemed iffy. The Tigers stepped up when it mattered the most for a big series then and they also 'stepped up' in KC to clinch a playoff spot.
I think that the Tigers will 'step up' again like they did in the last White Sox series a couple weeks ago.

I think what he said is representative of all of our young players this year. Imagine how long they have wanted to be in the playoffs, and in a ballpark with the history that Yankees stadium has. Like the Yankees or not, that stadium has a lot of history (just like the tigers stadium--when I passed the Tigers stadium while riding in a bus on my way to a Tigers game, I was snapping pic after pic)
