View Full Version : More stuff for next year to ponder...

This from Rotoworld this morning:
"
Sounds like Rangers owner Tom Hicks might be having some misgivings about Buck Showalter's suffocating, hands-on-everything managerial style, although he still seems more inclined to fire some of the players. If Hicks does keep Showalter, it figures to be a vastly different Ranger team next year, with Mark Teixeira and Hank Blalock likely to be dealt and Gary Matthews Jr. and Carlos Lee likely to leave as free agents".

Bonderman and a mid-level prospect for Teixiera

Of course, but Texas won't do it. Don't get me wrong, Bonderman is valuable, but Teixera is probably is one of the top 10 players in the league trade value wise.

I think you'd be surprised. Texas is desperate for pitching. I'm not sure I'd do it, but I'm trying to get a general census on what others think.

At this point...yes.

Texas is desperate for pitching.
If they're desperate for pitching, why start with Bonderman? Why not float Robertson by them for a hitter?
Bonderman and a mid-level prospect for Teixiera
Yes or no?
I'd do it right now. Again, nothing against Bonderman, but we have pitching. We need hitting.

Yes, in a heartbeat.

Definitely. Nothing against Bonderman - I'd like to keep him - but we really need somebody like Teixiera to beef up the offense.

Not Bonderman. How about Robertson,Inge,Monroe and a prospect for Teixiera and Blaylock. Might be too much to ask for but we need to keep a righty in Bonderman and trade some of our lefty pitching.

If Texas decides to trade Teixera, and is looking for pitching, who will be offering them anything close to as good as Bonderman? Bondo is 23 years old, second in the league in Ks, top 20 in ERA, can be dominant at times but keeps you in almost every game (only the Tigers' anemic offense makes Bonderman's current winless streak possible). He's had a few stinkers but every pitcher not named Johan has. Tell me, who will be offering something better than Bonderman? It's just incredibly rare to even have a pitcher like him on the market.

Houston, starting with Oswalt.
California, starting with Santana.
New York, starting with Wang.
Baltimore, starting with Bedard.
Oakland, starting with Haren.
Probably more National League clubs, that I don't follow as closely.

But do any of those teams really have a surplus of pitching,
other than maybe Oakland ?? And isn't Oakland going to lose Zito as an FA?

The only guy on this list who could be dealt is Santana, and the Rangers may deem him a better pitcher. So, there could be one other pitcher the class of Bonderman on the market. Texas may decide not to trade Teixera, but to say that they wouldn't trade him for Bonderman because Bondo isn't worthy just doesn't square with the reality of who would be available.

Respectfully, waynr, this is the kind of trade a child would propose. "How about we give you our flotsam for your two best hitters?"

Teixeira is exactly the sort of guy we'd need. When's he a free agent though? It's going to be expensive, but it should be. This is very interesting speculation.

I think after 2008.

Thanks.
He's an awfully valuable commodity. Bonderman's a free agent that same offseason IIRC. I think we might have the swag to get something done if they do decide to move him.
Vernon Wells is also supposedly going to be dealt, but you only get one year with him. I'd prefer Teixeira.

If we were going to try and trade for Tex, we should start lower than Bonderman. I heard that the Rangers have a high opinion of Robertson, so why not try to get max vlue for our players? But if it came down to it, I probably give up Bonderman for Tex.

Maybe Robertson + Humberto?

I got a Robertson jersey for my birthday two weeks ago. I fully expect him to be dealt this off-season. Why not Texeira? May as well be someone who can hit.

Why Bondo? Screw that, give them Humberto.

I'd start the process with some of the depth in the minors - Sanchez & maybe Whelan. Don't think that'll get the job done. As much as I like Bonderman, we need hitting.

I think Teixeira would be too expensive. I wonder what it would take to get Blalock? (obviously much, much less).
I like the idea of pursuing Gary Matthews Jr. as a FA. He covers an awful lot of ground in the outfield and he sports a .367 OBP. (Only .347 away from hitter-friendly Arlington, but that would still help the Tigers).

Oswalt just signed an extension - he's not going anywhere.
Santana is good, but I'd rather have Bonderman.
Wang is good, but New York can not afford to trade him for a bat!!
Bedard is not as good as Jeremy and he is also 27.
Haren is nowhere near Bonderman, older ... and not as good.
Seattle Mike is right, for value of players that could be traded .. Jeremy Bonderman, at his age, right now, if we trade him -- has HIGH VALUE.
I think we could get Big Tex for Bonderman straight up, let alone with a prospect.

If you could name me a package that is better than say; Bonderman and Jordan Tata, from another team .. I would love to know what that is.
There are better pitchers, at a young, than Bonderman, but of those .. who is really available? I am guessing -- not many.

Apologies to rotoworld, but there is no way that Teixeira gets traded. Even if they decide to dismantle the whole team, the 2 guys that stay are Michael Young and Teixeira.

Apologies to "thewave84", but until they get some pitching .. there is no way they will ever -- EVER -- compete in the same division as Oakland.

Blalock is not very good outside of his home stadium, I am not sure if he would be much of an upgrade over Inge offensively.

It is .. if they can get the right pitching for Big Tex. If you can get Bonderman and Zach Miner, which is what I'd offer -- it's worth it.
