It could be the best thing that ever happens to him.

If Shelton hits for a month like he did in April, it might be the best thing that ever happens to him (and the Tigers).

theres no way that happens this year without a reset, it just doesnt work that way. if he goes down for a month and then comes back for the last month, it could be possible. but he has gotten himself on a track that cant be changed very dramatically playing every day in the big leagues. the only way off it is the end of the season or a send down, being SAT down for a while wont do the trick either.

Shelton did alright tonight. Struck out three times, but had two hits. Give the guy a break.

Replacing him is the big problem. As much as I see him as a problem, his problem needs to be solved here and now or in the off season.

He just needs to stop trying to hit the ball 600ft.

Look what he did on the hit and run tonight. Took a nice short swing and still it the ball damn hard.

Shelton isn't going anywhere. He's going to get a chance to get a few days off here to work on his swing with Young back. He's played a ton and looks tired and undisciplined with his swing. A few less plate appearances may be what he needs more than anything.

if we sent shelton down and called phelps up, we could platoon young and phelps at 1B on the interim.

I dont see a problem with Shelton. If DY continues to hit, you have a pretty decent 4 man rotation thing going on. One day DY DH's, Shelton plays first, Monroe sits. Next, DY plays first, Monroe DH's and Shelton sits. Then DY sits and Monroe and Shelton play. Add Thames to that mix.

DY will take some at bats from Shelton, and batting eighth in the lineup he isnt exactly killing us.

He will probably never have another month like April again but getting injured for a month is not going to make it any more likely that he has a strong September. Players can go hot and cold and hot again without a one month injury in between.

when he said "go down," I think he meant to Toledo.

Oh ok, I saw somebody else post something about an injury and got confused.
I was mostly reponding to his "it doesn't work that way" comment. I don't think going down to the minors is necessarily going to help him have a good final month versus a few days off.

Chris tore it up in April, got a girlfriend in May and now he looks lost at the plate. Maybe his new girlfriend has something to due with him playing bad.

The only thing that will mess you up more than women is a lack of them.

Sheltons strung together a few games with some nice ABs. Had the double and almost hit one out today. Its certainly encouraging. I really dont remember the last time he drew a walk though, so plate discipline still seems to be lacking.

The main thing that concerned me was how, for a while, he wasnt taking pitches the opposite way very often. I just think that means that his approach at the plate has changed and he's struggling to switch back to the form that worked all of last year.

I'm somewhat against platooning shelton with DY at first, just because I'd rather see DY platoon with Monroe. DY is at least fairly adequate defensively (actually will dive, slide, crash into walls, etc), but I dont know how willing the coaches are to let him play both sides of the game after coming off an injury.
