O.k. this might seem like an odd question, but I was wondering if anyone knows who shares a room with who when the Tigers are on the road. I know that Granderson and Zumaya are roommates, but dont know about the other 23 players. Thanks

I don't think MLB players share hotel rooms. I know Grandy and Zoom live together in Detroit, which might be what you are thinking of.

They do share hotel rooms. Absolutely. They can opt to pay for a different room if they want....but not many do that.

Are you sure? That seems really cheap to me.

Yeah, it's done to save a little money, but also to build rapport between players. A lot of times a young player will room with a veteran player. They still do this. But, not all the players - some guys opt for single rooms and I think they have to pay for it

I'm not sure about this. I don't have my CBA handy, but I thought that players get their own hotel rooms.

This is what I thought too. Forcing players to pay if they want their own room does not sound like something to which the union would agree.

well i know that NBA, NHL, and NFL players share rooms. So I dont think its a union concern, strickly for MLBB

well yeah, remember that gameshow that rip and chauncy went on? they said nobody likes to room with sheed because he's so loud, or whatever. so we know the NBA shares rooms at least.

The MLB has the strongest union so what other sports do is not necessarily what baseball does. I was under the impression that it was different in MLB but I really don't know.

The union for the MLB is MUCH stronger than the unions in the other sports.

I have no clue whether the players share rooms on the road. I do know that Zumaya and Grandy live together in Detroit but thats about all I know.

I think that veterans get there own rooms, but younger players have to share rooms as part of the CBA. I recently saw a show on it, but I honestly can't remember if they were talking about MLB or the NBA or something. I think it was baseball, but I'm not sure.

as long as it's only the younger players. mixing young and old players could lead to some Canteen Boy moments...

MLB players or at least the Tigers don't share rooms on the road. I've been to see Joel in Texas, Anehiem and Oakland and I know this for a fact. See Ya... Kicks

I swear i've heard ballplayers specifically asking for their own rooms in contracts, but then again, that might have been quite awhile ago. I imagine even if its not guarenteed by the CBA, i'd imagine some owners would spring for the extra 13 or so rooms hoping to keep morale higher and keep upcoming FA's happy. The extra 100-150k a year might bring back that alone with retaining one player.

Why? I'm sure there's a reference that I am missing.

Only thing I can catch is Jones is a homophobe and Pudge used to make out with Urbina after Urbina racked up a save.

I was under the impression Zumaya and Granderson were road roomies as well as apartment-mates?

Also welcome to the board. I've wondered about this before. For some reason I thought Shelton and Wilson were roomies too, but I might have just been imagining things.

I'm also not positive on this, but I coulda sworn I read something saying the days of room-sharing on the road in MLB were basically over. I wish I remember where I read it, but it definitely said something along those lines.

Baseball players do not share rooms on the road. I know it. I used to deliver pizzas to them at the Ritz and Hyatt and, unless something else was going on, the rooms all had one bed. There was also a story about it recently in one of the papers. Hockey players share until they become veterans, I don't know the cutoff, or maybe they get it worked into their contracts.
