I happened to be over at the ballpark this afternoon to do an interview with Lew Chamberlin, and caught a glimpse of the guys working in the field on this cold (but dry)early April Tuesday. That is the only glimpse I was able to get (from outside the gate). I was able to go out on the concourse later and get a look at all the improvements. I will post a couple pics of those later. I am sure that Grandma G will have some additions later. The host families are getting a chance to meet the guys tonight so they can decide on a home for the season.
One of the activities of this week of opening day in WM is a carnival going on out in the front parking lot (area we call the back 40 when we end up parking way out there). pics later.

Looking over the rosters that I have seen for this team I think that the prospect to watch will of course be Cameron Maybin.
Matt Joyce will also be interesting.
Really the entire offensive lineup will be of note because there are some possibly solid prospects in the group. There could be a few like Joyce, Hollimon, and Rhymes that might be on the move by midseason since they are college draftees.
I am going to keep an eye on Middleton as well. He has shown flashes but nothing consistent.
Overall I am pretty interested in this WM team. Its hard to judge their statistics sometimes because of the park being bad for hitters though.
It is a bit different than the typical WM team of the past where the pitching had to carry them. There could be some punch in the lineup.

I am looking forward to meeting the team tomorrow evening. In the meantime, here are a couple pics of the improvements to the ball park. We now have outside seating for the suites, and an outfield banquet room with an indoor (heat and AC) lower level and an outdoor upper level that will be available for rent this season.

Maybin's tattoos reflect his outlook on life, baseball
Wednesday, April 05, 2006
By Brian Vanochten
The Grand Rapids Press
LAKELAND, Fla. -- The sleeveless T-shirt on Cameron Maybin's muscular torso reveals tattoos on both shoulders that require an explanation.
A serious, heartfelt explanation.
"It explains who I am," he said with thoughtful glances at his left shoulder, featuring a Major League Baseball logo, and his right shoulder, featuring a crucifix with a baseball in the middle, a Holy rosary surrounding it and the first three letters of his name placed in different portions of the cross.
He hesitates before exposing two more tattoos.
The third is located on the inside of his left forearm and features the name of a beloved grandmother. The fourth is concealed underneath his uniform on the upper right portion of his chest and features another crucifix with the words "Truly Blessed" imprinted as a reminder of the priorities in his life.
Four important inked impressions.
"You should understand," Maybin cautions, "that coming from the family that I come from, (getting tattoos) isn't something that's accepted. These are about my faith, my family and playing the game of baseball. These are what I'm all about."
You might call him God's gift to the Detroit Tigers.
Maybin, who celebrated his 19th birthday Tuesday, was the Tigers' first-round pick (10th overall) in last summer's draft. He already has made an indelible imprint on everyone in the organization with his talent.
Lofty comparisons
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound center fielder possesses a rare combination of power and speed that has earned him comparisons to former major-league sluggers Joe Carter and Andre Dawson.
He wowed the Tigers during the fall instructional league.
He followed up with an impressive spring training, prompting the Tigers to let him skip ahead a level in the minor-league development process.
He'll begin his pro career with the West Michigan Whitecaps when the team opens the 2006 Midwest League season Thursday at Fifth Third Ballpark.
"I first met Cameron when he came down for instructional league," Tigers director of player development Glenn Ezell said. "I was impressed with him. I was impressed that his (character) was even better than his tools as a player."
No one questions his unlimited potential as a future major-league standout, but everyone seems much more impressed with his maturity level.
"He has good makeup," Whitecaps manager Matt Walbeck said. "He's a good teammate and a good person."
Those are qualities Maybin learned from his parents.
He credits his father, Rudy, and mother, Renee, for their constant support and encouragement while growing up as a baseball prodigy in Arden, N.C.
"I was taught to be humble because this can be taken away from you at any second," he said.
Money doesn't change him
He remains humble even after getting a $2.65 million signing bonus from the Tigers, who signed Maybin after a long holdout that prevented him from making his pro debut last summer.
His first purchase after receiving the check?
Yes, of course, a new car -- for his mother.
The second thing he did after becoming a millionaire was write his grandmother a large check.
He waited until three months later, after returning from instructional league, to pick out a Range Rover sport-utility vehicle for himself. He put the rest of the bonus money in the bank.
His focus on the eve of beginning his professional career with the Whitecaps is making sure he reaches the height of his ability as a ballplayer. His tattoos are a constant source of faith and inspiration.
"I've played baseball since I was 3. I remember it being the first thing my dad put in my hands," Maybin recalled. "It's tough. Baseball's a challenge, but I like a challenge. It's a tough sport. It's not easy. But that's what I like about it."

Time for Whitecaps to put on hitting shoes
Wednesday, April 05, 2006
By Brian Vanochten
The Grand Rapids Press
COMSTOCK PARK -- Of all the improvements to Fifth Third Ballpark during the offseason, West Michigan Whitecaps manager Matt Walbeck is most interested in seeing the rebuilt hitting backdrop in center field.
He'll get a chance to inspect it tonight.
The Whitecaps are scheduled to hit the field from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during their annual open workout.
"I'm excited to see what they've done," Walbeck said of the $1 million renovation project that includes sweeping changes to the 13-year-old facility. "It's going to be fun to see the progress."
The workout is free to the public.
The team's staff will serve complimentary hot dogs and soft drinks, provide tours of the new luxury suite outdoor seating and make players available for autographs following the conclusion of batting and infield practice.
New background
The new hitting backdrop was installed last week.
The old background, which prompted repeated complaints from Whitecaps hitters, has been expanded from 18 feet high and 52 feet wide to its current 34-by-65 size that's consistent with recommended dimensions for newer ballpark construction.
"We wanted to make sure it was the size that would make the difference," Whitecaps vice president Jim Jarecki said. "I know that's the first thing the (hitters) are going to look at when they come to the ballpark for the workout.
"I want them to be pleased with it."
The multiple tiers that resulted in depth-perception difficulties for hitters with the old background appear to have been eliminated through the installation of a dark windscreen that creates more of a one-piece appearance.
"I'm glad," Walbeck said of the rebuilt backdrop.
"I think it's fair the batters see the ball from the pitcher's hand to the plate.
"It's just good baseball. If it's fixed, the hitters won't have any more excuses."

Nice article on my adopted Tiger. Thanks for posting it E.
I'm excited to see the minor league season begin Thursday too. It's the first step of Cameron's march to Detroit.
Edited b/c this week's been so long that I actually thought it was already Thursday. Ugh...

I just got back from the Open Practice this evening, the park looks great! I'm working on uploading a couple of pics from the evening. It was so awesome to see real live baseball once again. While watching the players I got to have a couple of good conversations with some fellow fans. I was trying to keep my eyes open for any of the other Motowners from the boards here, but I wasn't able to recognize anybody.
Like I mentioned, the park looks great. Those new seats in front of the suites are very spiffy, and the banquet deck in the outfield gives an awesome view from up top. The players all looked really excited to be out there playing ball, and look like they were having a lot of fun.
So long as the weather isn't total crap, I'm looking forward to hitting up a game on either the 14th or the 15th, while I'm on Easter Break from school.
Here are a couple of my favorite pictures from the evening:

Ok, I got back from the game a little while ago, and have uploaded some of my pics, I'll post some links here later on in the post.
Tonight was my first ever Opening Day game, Whitecaps or Tigers, and I must say, it was great! I got a chance to meet quite a few of my fellow Motowners- Wendy, Grandma G, Melissa, Biff (the turd had me scared for a second when I first met him), and Em (which, by the way, my offer to trade cameras is still on the table). It was great to meet all you guys! Oh, and apparently (according to Grandma G) I look like Yoda. Not sure if that should be taken as a compliment or not! http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a234/potthole123/Smilies/eyes.gif http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a234/potthole123/Smilies/wink.gif
Now, I must say. CAMERON MAYBIN was THE MAN. He was 2-4, with a single and a triple. He smashed the ball in his first two at bats as well, sadly the first one went right at an infielder, and the second one was a warning track shot to the deepest part of the park. On defense, he made a great diving catch, which turned into a double play.
Speaking of Cameron, here he is scoring his first ever professional run:

Maybin impressive, but Whitecaps fall
Top Detroit pick shows off skills at plate, in center on Opening Day
By Michael Echan / Special to MLB.com
Cameron Maybin started off his professional career with a bang, but it wasn't enough for a win as visiting Fort Wayne beat West Michigan, 5-3, on Thursday.
Maybin, the Detroit Tigers' first pick in last year's draft, showed off some of his coveted tools in his first game. The Whitecaps' new center fielder displayed solid hitting by lacing an outside fastball from Wizards pitcher Jon Link to right field and used his speed to turn the hit into a triple.
"It was nice to play good in my first game, but it would have been better if we got the win," said Maybin, who celebrated his 19th birthday just two days ago. "But once we get our reps in, we'll probably get some 'W's' on the board."
Maybin scored later that inning and finished the game 2-for-4. He also played flawlessly center, making a rare 8-4 double play in the eighth inning and made a diving catch in the ninth.
While Maybin was running all over Fifth Third Ballpark, the Fort Wayne batters were busy leaving it, hitting three home runs over the course of the game. Designated hitter Daryl Jones and first baseman Kyle Blanks broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth with back-to-back home runs off West Michigan pitcher Jake Baxter. Blanks also had a game-tying, two-run homer in the second as he went 2-for-4 on the night.
Link (1-0) picked up the win for the Wizards, going two innings while allowing a run on one hit while striking out a batter. Neil Jamison picked up the save with a hitless ninth.
Baxter (0-1) suffered the loss as a result of the two home runs in the eighth. The 22-year-old righty gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over an inning of work. West Michigan starter Lucas French gave his squad a solid outing, striking out seven over four innings, but allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and two walks.
Both teams meet again at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, April 7 at 6:35 p.m. ET.

He didn't happen to this evening, from what I saw, but mainly beacuse he didn't ever really get too close to the fans during pregame warmups. From what I saw at the Open Practice, though, he's a really nice guy, and I'm sure he'll sign for you.

D'oh, it was worth a shot.
I think something's a bit wrong with that Maybin story that was posted. It said that he completed the double play in the 8th inning, and made his diving catch in the 9th. Didn't the double play happen on the same play as the dive? I could swear he dove for the ball, and then was able to complete the double play, because the runners kept going, thinking he didn't make a catch.

Can any of you do any short video on your dig camera at a game? Is that something that can be posted in the gallery, anyways?
Thanks, pothole.
If I don't take any pics (ha ha), I can do up to 15 minutes of video. I can take a minute or so of video with sound. I too have Photobucket and am able to download (haven't done it yet). Any requests of a particular situation any of you would like to see? (I am guessing that Cameron Maybin at bat is going to be the top request :classic: but just in case...... ).Since it would take a minute to set up and zoom correctly, it would be best if it was a situation that could be predicted ahead of time (Maybin catching a ball in the outfield would not be a good one)

Wendy, just thought I'd let you know, since you're going to attempt a video upload as well, with Photobucket, I believe you can upload video files that are a maximum of 30 seconds in legnth. Just thought I should mention that, so you're able to time out your video clips well enough.
Oh, and as for that double header, wouldn't 6:00 be really late to have the first game of a double dip?

I am heading to Fort Wayne later this morning to catch the guys on a road trip. It is supposed to be in the forties but dry (so I am told). Not exactly a replacement for Florida, but hey, it is baseball. I understand that the motel I am staying in has high speed Internet available (never tried it. I have the capability on my computer, just don't know if it will work with Juno. Hopefully I will be able to give a report and pics sometime tomorrow night.....er, I mean tonight. Time for bed. I have not gotten much sleep since baseball started. I am starting to reduce the size of my pics, maybe that will allow me a little more sleep. Good night all.

Garcia's arm, Maybin's bat key first Whitecaps win
West Michigan takes Fort Wayne's home opener
FORT WAYNE, IN – Following a lead off single in the first, Ramon Garcia retired 12 Fort Wayne batters in a row to set the tone for a 4-1 Whitecaps victory over the Wizards.
Garcia pitched five innings and struck out six with no walks. He allowed two hits and the Wizards' only run of the day in the fifth inning on his way to the win.
Cameron Maybin came through with timely hitting for the 'Caps as he pulled a two-run double down the left field line to put West Michigan on the board in the third inning.
Maybin doubled down the right field line with one out in the ninth then scored when clean up hitter Matt Joyce doubled off the right-centerfield wall. It was the first hit of the season for Joyce, but his fourth RBI.
Joyce also drove in a run on ground ball in the fifth inning as Will Rhymes scored for the second tie in the game.
Matt Rusch pitched two innings of relief for the Whitecaps and was followed by Anthony Claggett and Orlando Perdomo, who each pitched in one inning on the hill. Perdomo recorded the save.
Grant Varnell suffered the loss. He started for Fort Wayne and pitched the first five innings, but allowed seven of the Whitecaps 13 hits. West Michigan left 11 runners on base.
The Whitecaps have tallied 22 in their first two games of the season.
Short Series: The final game of the brief two game series is Sunday at 2:00 p.m. LHP Eric Averill will be on the mound for West Michigan against Fort Wayne RHP Josh Geer. The Whitecaps Pre Game Show begins at 1:50 p.m. on 1340 AM WBBL and at wbbl.com.

Actually I did not return home. I am sitting in a motel room enjoying high speed Internet, so am getting a lot of photo stuff done that I have not had a chance to do before. I took a lot of pictures today and wish I could put links to them all on here, but it is already late, so will do just a few. Actually there were a few guys that stood out. Maybin with a triple and a double was impressive (he had 2 RBI with the triple, but not sure if he had an RBI with the double). Justin Justice was on fire tonight--I think he was 2-3 (both singles). I get kind of spoiled at 5/3 ballpark where they put their hits on the board--kind of lost without those since I am too busy with a camera to keep score. The pitching was wonderful--got a little scary in the 9th but Orlando worked out of it. Ramon Garcia was absolutely wonderful. I told him afterwards that I jinxed him, because I made the comment "Do you realize he has a 1 hitter going?" to one of the other Whitecaps fans as he was going in for the fifth inning. I then had to explain what a jinx was (Latino) and told him i would never do that again. I am not superstitious, but he got a kick out of it.
Before the game, a Wizard fan wanted a picture of Matt Joyce holding up a bat. I also snapped a picture, but because of the shadows covering his eyes, I asked him to lift his cap a little. He had a little fun with it, and the second pic I think catches his personality a little.
All in all, it was a fun game and a cold but sunshiny day. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer.

The pitching is still a bit rough around the edges and could be for a little while.
Their offense has been doing okay. I am as happy as I can be about Maybin's start. He of course still seems to struggle with the off speed stuff but will be fine long term.
I am happy with some of the other starts like Hollimon and Joyce... Overall its too early to get too excited about any of them. Although it is very hard with Maybin because of all the hype surrounding him and the way he has worked the count and hit the ball hard.

Sunday's game was the opposite, in pitching that is, from Saturday's game. Many of the Whitecaps pitching staff fell behind in the count against an offensively strong Fort Wayne line up. While the Whitecaps were getting hits, they just did not seem to get the clutch hits they needed to score runs. The Whitecaps fell to the Wizards 11-3. They headed straight from Fort wayne to South Bend, so hopefully the team can relax and have a fresh start against South Bend. Sendy Vasquez will have his first start as a West Michigan Whitecap. I will post Sundays pics after work Monday.

The Grand Rapids Press
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The West Michigan Whitecaps won't sweep last year's Midwest League champions, but they've still got a chance at winning their first series of the year against South Bend.
The Whitecaps scored three first-inning runs, but managed little after that in falling to the defending league-champ Silver Hawks 4-3 Tuesday.
The loss evens the three-game series at one game apiece heading into tonight's 6:30 p.m. series finale.
The Whitecaps scored in the first inning on a single by William Rhymes, a walk to Mike Hollimon and a single by Cameron Maybin loaded the bases with two out.
Matt Joyce drove in one run with a groundout, and two more scored when Mark Haske's grounder was booted by Silver Hawks shortstop Pedro Ciriaco.
The Whitecaps managed only three hits the rest of the way, including two by Rhymes, who finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Matt Rusch took the loss for West Michigan despite giving up only two hits and one run in three innings of relief.
He struck out five and, at one time, retired seven straight Silver Hawks hitters.
Ciriaco made up for his error by starting rallies in the bottom of the first inning and the third.
He singled and scored on a two-out wild pitch in the first and doubled to lead off the third, eventually scoring on a two-run double by Gary Thompson that tied the game 3-3.
South Bend took the lead in the fourth inning on a single and a two-out RBI single by Ricardo Cruz, who snapped an 0-for-11 streak to open the season.

Maybin makes splashy debut in MWL
By Kevin T. Czerwinski / MLB.com
Much of the buzz surrounding the start of the Midwest League season centered on Justin Upton and the fact that he would be in Arizona, not South Bend, rehabbing a shoulder injury instead of learning how to play center field for the Silver Hawks.
Well, for those shortsighted enough to focus all their attention on Upton, take a peek further north and you'll find another center fielder -- not to mention another top draft pick -- who can capture the imagination.
Detroit made Cameron Maybin its top selection, 10th overall, and ultimately the difference between the two players may only be those few spots on the draft board.
Maybin, who turned 19 last week, is an electrifying player, who, at least through the first week of the season, has demonstrated that the Midwest League might not be enough of a challenge for an entire season. He had six hits, three for extra bases, and a walk in his first three games for West Michigan and also flashed some serious leather out in center, looking smooth and graceful as he tracked fly balls.
Probably the best part of his initial foray into pro ball, however, is his approach. Maybin and the Tigers had a long, drawn-out negotiation process after the draft, causing him to miss out on playing last summer. But he had a big Instructional League and an impressive Spring Training, providing further evidence as to why he went so high in the draft.
Team officials raved, fans fawned and everyone began predicting big things in March. But Maybin doesn't come off as anything but respectful and dedicated to making himself a better player. There's no hot dog in him, no attitude. He's just a grounded kid from North Carolina. Maybin didn't even keep the ball from his first hit the other night, saying that there was no need to take it and put it on a shelf somewhere.
"You can't do that," he said. "You have to act like you've done it before. There will be plenty more games for me to play. I've always been taught to act like you've been there before so it's not a big deal."
But Maybin himself will be a big deal. Fort Wayne manager Randy Ready, a former big leaguer, said it is too early in the season to be pitching around anyone. Besides, at this level, he's quick to point out that most clubs have "five or six guys capable of doing damage."
Yet, Wizards' starter Grant Varnell certainly looked tentative Saturday during Fort Wayne's home opener when Maybin came to the plate with two men on in the third inning. He looked to be picking instead of attacking and Maybin made him pay, drilling a two-run double into the left field corner. Chalk it up to being cautious or chalk it up to Maybin's already blossoming reputation. Either way, it made for an interesting at-bat.
Two innings later, though, in a similar situation, Varnell was more aggressive and struck Maybin out, making him look like the teenager that he is by getting him to chase a high breaking ball. Maybin showed his propensity to go fishing again, chasing a ball down and out of the zone during his first-at bat against Josh Geer, who was San Diego's third-round pick last season.
Those two at-bats, probably more so than the others, are a part of the reason Maybin is so in touch with who he is. He knows he still has a lot to learn but man oh man, are the raw skills there. Watching him, you get the sense that you're really getting in on the ground floor of something. Ready even liked what he saw in Maybin from his vantage point in the opposing dugout.
"His approach looks pretty good," Ready said. "He squared up some at the plate the first few games and made a couple of nice catches. He has some nice tools to work with. It's just a matter of getting the mileage now in the pro ranks."
The Tigers don't seem inclined to rush Maybin, though ultimately he may make the decision for them. Whether he makes the move to Lakeland later this summer remains to be seen but one observer who is close to the team said Sunday morning as he watched West Michigan take batting practice that Maybin would probably be in the Florida State League by July.
"It's about the way I perform," said Maybin, who turned down a scholarship offer from Southern University to sign with the Tigers. "That's what it comes down to. It's not my decision anyway. I just try and go out and play and do what I do. My purpose is to just worry about Cameron Maybin. My biggest thing is to take care of me, on and off the field. If I do that, I'll be all right."
Maybin will be more than all right. He looks like he's going to be one of the dominating forces in the Midwest League this season, at least for as long as he's here. Justin Upton will be here soon enough, and then everyone can argue which team has the best center fielder. Either way, it's an argument that's difficult to lose, especially if you're one of the folks backing Maybin.

Heh, I wish I were able to get on the field. Thank you very much for the compliment. Although I'm sure Emily would love to take some credit for my pictures, I have to give the credit to my dad for having a super cool Nikon D50, which he kindly let me borrow for tonight's game.
I'll be bringing it to tomorrow's game, and I'm sort of 'scared' to see how many pictures I'll take. The only reason I stopped at 183 tonight was because I ran out of memory. I'll be using a 3 gig memory card on Friday, so I'll probably be able to get at least 400 pics taken if I want.
And to echo you, it was cool to see Thrilla tonight, it's nice to know I'm not the only young 20-something that hangs out around here!

Well, thank you very much for the kind words! Photography has always been a little side hobby of mine, once I get done with school I'd love to actually get a nice camera of my own, so I can continue to keep up with the hobby.
Oh yeah, I never said there wasn't anything wrong with being a 20 something, lol, I just noticed that in that "How Old Are You" thread that we're one of the minority age groups around here. :classic:

Yeah, I like the first Garcia pic too, it's set as my desktop actually. I'll send you a PM, to get your e-mail addy, and I'll e-mail you a higher res version of that first Garcia pic.

He's making a bit of a joke, lol. Last night at the game some of us were having a little bit of fun at the expense of the bat boy, mainly pointing out the fact that he seemed to be a little bit on the lazy side.
MrG, I must say when I read that post of yours, I burst out laughing.

Hey now hey now...Mikey seemed to be on his own last night and has never been the most...how shall we say...enthusiastic? batboy ever.
But man...did he get, like, a lot taller in the offseason?
He still takes up as much space in my viewfinder tho, when he steps into the frame, that's for sure.

He's making a bit of a joke, lol.
And he didn't even know how much of a joke. Because if you only knew...how the bat boy (http://flickr.com/photos/therealshutterbabe/24107616/) is the bane of my existence (http://flickr.com/photos/therealshutterbabe/48181942/) (well, along with umps and first base coaches and apparently, this year, Roberson on deck) when it comes to getting shots of action at home plate....it was that much funnier.
But then I was thinkin'...what if he's a relative or something and they're serious.
Cuz you neevvvvver know at the ballpark. Gotta be careful what you say. I almost started talkin' **** about the park when I shot an away game last year to the chatty, overly friendly woman sitting next to me (who was the bat boy's mom, as a matter of fact.)
Thought better of it and good thing, because when I got up to leave she introduced herself. She was the team owner's wife.
Never know who is who or who knows who or who knows what at the ballpark.
Still think Jules took the best bay boy photo ever. (http://flickr.com/photos/therealshutterbabe/54381946/)

Last night I found out some very interesting and good news...
My partner for "In The Zone" (which is the local TV show I co-host) got in touch with the Whitecaps. We're in the process of working out a deal with the team where we'll have a group of people coming to a game, and the team will give us t-shirts, with a Whitecaps logo on the front, and something about our TV show on the back. I haven't learned all the details yet, but I think the they might then do some sort of advertising for us as well.
Right now we're looking at Saturday, May 20th as the game we do this event, so look for a bunch of orange shirts sitting together, because that'll probably be our group!

Tonight the Whitecaps lost a heartbreaker 5-4 to Cedar Rapids. They led 3-0 until two home runs and two very costly errors cost them the game. We now have an 8 game homestand. (you will not see or hear much of anything from me in the next week as I will be living (practically) at the ball park.

Thanks everyone, I feel bad that I haven't gotten more up. I will, soon.
I also have MiLB asking for pics of players from other teams so I end up sitting down at the computer and...like I am right this minute...dealing with photos of another team's player so I don't know how much more Caps stuff will get done.
Leavin' in an hour for the game, so....tomorrow??

I went to the game today, it was a great Whitecaps victory, 4-3. They were down early, but clawed their way back for what turned out to be an enjoyable day at the ballpark. I got to have some nice conversation with Em while the two of us were busy snapping away pictures.

Sunday's game
Kind of a wet yucky cold day, but good baseball. There was one play at the plate that was considered "suspect" (okay maybe it wasn't the only one), but I have proof that it was actually a very good call. The catcher was indeed straddling the plate, and Justice was done on Justin's behalf (pun intended)

So, today I got one of my pictures blown up to poster size, I think it turned out pretty cool! My school's print shop does them for $12 a pop, which isn't half bad of a price, in my humble opinion.
I should be going to Wednesday's game, so I'm going to bring along the poster, and show it to Burke, seeing as the poster is of him. I think he might enjoy getting to see his picture all big and such.
Seeing as prices at my school aren't too bad at all for this, I might look into making multiple posters this summer.

ESPN is reporting that Tony Jaramillo, the Caps hitting coach, has resigned.
'Caps Hitting Coach Resigns
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Detroit Tigers announced today that West Michigan Whitecaps hitting coach Tony Jaramillo resigned to pursue interests outside of baseball. Jaramillo cited personal reasons for leaving the club and his resignation is effective immediately. The Tigers have not yet named a replacement.
Glenn Ezell, Tigers director of player development, said "It is unfortunate these circumstances arose. We were confident in his abilities, but Tony did what he felt was necessary at this time."
This season would have been Jaramillo's third with the Tigers' organization and the Whitecaps. He helped lead the Whitecaps to a Midwest League Championship in 2004. Before beginning his coaching career, Jaramillo played six seasons of professional baseball. Jaramillo currently resides in Duncanville, Texas.

Extra innings suit the Whitecaps well
Ryan walks off with game winning triple
COMSTOCK PARK – Dusty Ryan extended his hitting streak to eight games with a walk-off RBI triple down the right field line in the bottom of the twelfth inning as the Whitecaps edged Kane County, 3-2. West Michigan has won five games in a row, but the Western Division leading Cougars have dropped four straight.
