View Full Version : Hermes apologizes to Oprah
Oblong

Don't worry, all is good. I guess Oprah was refused the chance to even pull a "don't you know who I am" at some store in France.
WHy this was a headline on a major news site is beyond me but I thought I'd share. Maybe I don't understand what's truly important in life.
There was a private party being planned in the store but Oprah decided she wanted to shop there anyway and was refused. I guess there's something wrong with that and they had to apologize.
This bit was especially laughable:
“Hermes regrets not having been able to welcome Madame Oprah Winfrey and the people accompanying her to give them all the attention and service that Hermes is committed to giving each of its clients in the world,” said the statement, released Tuesday. “Hermes expresses its sincere regrets for any misunderstanding that these circumstances could have caused.”
So keep that in mind next time you are in Paris and wish to go there during a private party.

I have a friend that actually works for Oprah. She is one of the people that books guests for the show.
She says Oprah is actually pretty nice.
I'm not a fan of the show, but I don't have a problem with Oprah. One must admit, she has done pretty darn well.

Both. Because at his murder trial TC is found guilty and given the death penalty.
(While Mizzz Okrah Wimpy is left standing at Heaven's gate, denied entry because they don't know about her celebrity.)

I don't know enough about her to speculate on how htis will be presented on her show but if she's claiming to be some sort of victim then the irony is pretty thick. It's controversial because she gets treated like a regular person? I hope those saps in her audience who worship her realize the slap in the face that is.
Maybe she'll poke fun at herself. If so then I can go along with it. Something like "Guess I'm not all that after all".

In another version of the original story, I read this:(link) (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/22/oprah.apology/index.html)
"The New York Post, in its Monday Page Six gossip column, reported she was turned away because the store had been "having a problem with North Africans lately."
In comments to CNN, an Hermes spokeswoman categorically denied that allegation."
That may be why Hermes offered a blanket apology..... just in case any words like the "North Africans" comments actually had occured.
Who knows why this is a headline story?
Beats me.
On the other hand, I don't wish anyone "death" in this situation.
Doesn't seem to be warranted, you know what I mean?

Why on earth should the store let her in "WHEN IT'S CLOSED?" What a pretentious boob.

Seriously. It was closed for a private party. The arrogance of a person to think, "we'll, they should open the store just for me cause I'm Oprah."
Get over yourself.

I wasn't aware that Oprah or her people were spinning it at all.
Are they?
edit:
I just read in the article you posted that:
“People were in the store and they were shopping. Oprah was at the door and she was not allowed into the store,” Gayle King, a friend of Winfrey who witnessed the incident, told syndicated TV show “Entertainment Tonight.” “Oprah describes it herself as ‘one of the most humiliating moments of her life.”’
King said it’s unlikely that Winfrey will shop there again. “She’s really OK. Her position is, ‘I will shop where people appreciate my business, and I don’t believe that any longer includes Hermes,”’ King said.
Ok, two things.
Gayle is an *******, and obviously Oprah is a bigger one.
End of story.

What's worse - a celebrity who thinks the world owes them a favor ... OR the talentless friend of said celebrity who keeps showing up on t-v thinking we give a crap what she has to say.

A spokeswoman for Winfrey’s Chicago-based Harpo Productions told The Associated Press Thursday the talk-show host plans to discuss her “Crash” moment when “The Oprah Winfrey Show” returns to the air in September.
“Crash” is a film dealing with race relations.
What a disgusting, pompous *** she is.
Get ready for some obscene parallel between her and Rosa Parks. It might go something like this.
OPRAH: "Fifty years ago African Americans like me were not allowed to drink from white drinking fountains or eat at white restaurants. They were bullied, harassed, and in some parts of the country they were not allowed to vote.
Before civil rights heroes such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, and myself -- Oprah Winfrey -- came along to break down the barriers of racial prejudice and hatred, blacks were often lynched just for demanding equal treatment.
Fifty years on, in 2005, I faced an all-too-real modern department store "lynch mob" of my own in Paris. This is my shocking and telling account of just how far we have left to go before equal rights and fair treatment are afforded to everyone -- even Oprah Winfrey."

The owner of the stores could have "manned-up" and said "We were closed for a private party" and left it at that. Further proof that the French have no balls.

Dangit. Sorry. Now I can't find it.
I'll summarize it for you:
This always happens to black people. It's just like the Jim Crow days. Every black person everywhere in the world is a victim of racism every day.
Hey Oprah, the next time I go and try to get into Hermes after the store is closed and they don't let me in, I want to come on your show and ****ing cry about it on national tv. Oh please, you HAVE to let me in! If you don't, it's because you don't like my skin color and think I might steal something.
GET OVER IT you overpaid hag. You're one of the luckiest people on the face of the earth. Stop pretending somebody done you wrong cause some Parisian store wouldn't let you in. Hell, they probably wouldn't let me in either and I'm as white as they come. The French are a bit snooty sometimes. Even to gods like Oprah.
I think, for once, most people on this site agree with the French...

I'm not saying she didn't work hard. I'm not saying she's not talented. But I think there is an extreme amount of luck involved in rising from a local talk show host who just happened to come along at the time when talk shows like hers became extremely popular. She caught a wave and rode it. Hard worker? Of course. Talented? Of course. Lucky? I think so.

.... I think Oprah should be majorly ASHAMED of herself for playing the race card.
If she wants to not give Hermes her business because they turned her away ........ and she felt like she should have been given special preference because of who she is....... fine.
But be honest about it........ say you're pissed because they didn't kiss your somewhat-smaller-black-***, and you've come to expect that.
Don't pull the black rabbit out of the hat trick.
Totally dishonest.

First Rosa Parks couldn't sit in the back of the bus and now Oprah can't get into Hermes when it's closed. We have yet to progress as a people when that happens. Just when you think it's getting better something like this happens. What's next?

while I'm not a fan of Oprah.
Her life was a recipie for disaster: Born in one of the poorest parts of the country. Molested as a child. Black and female.
I consider her remarkable, inspite of what happened in France. I can't think of 50 other Americans that overcame those odds and achieved so much.

You could actually view her reaction to this as a symbol that we have indeed come very far as a human race in terms of race releations. If we now are at the point where it's a problem that a billionaire celebrity doesn't get treated as a billionaire celebrity because she's black then I consider that signifigant progress. That must mean we have no other problems of a lesser degree if we should focus on that. Thanks Oprah.

Actually, I think the store was closed for a private party. Someone else had paid to have the store to themselves. But the point is - it was closed. Come back tomorrow like the rest of us.
I admire what she has overcome to get where she is. But doing something this stupid deserves to be criticized.

Indeed, it's the same as people who say McCain shouldn't be criticized because of his service to Vietnam. Hogwash!
BTW, did anyone see McCain last night? Pancake makeup cannot hide how hideous looking he is getting.

Oprah is going to spin this as "Yes the store was closed but if Celine Dion/Streisand or any other white megamediamillionaire female approached the store they would bend over backwards to cater to her every whim".
It should be quite funny to see this.

The store was closed because it was fifteen minutes past closing time. There were people in the store because there was a private party.

Wait until Oprah does a show on this tragic and "humiliating" experience. Leave it to the overweight Midwestern hens who adore Oprah to actually believe this story has some relevance to their own non-billionaire, will-never-shop-at-Hermes lives.
In unison, the audience will nod knowingly, with the occasional grimace of despair and pity.
