View Full Version : Hotel Suggestions

As some of you may recall, I recently posted a thread about driving suggestions when I pick up my girlfriend at the Detroit Airport on August 4th (she is returning from France). Well, I need to get a hotel room for that night. I'm looking for something kind of cheap, but not too crappy. She will probably be getting a ride from the airport to the hotel so if they had a shuttle service that would be helpful, but it is not required (that might affect the price obviously). Any suggestions for hotels around the area of the airport that are affordable? Thanks.

Heck, I don't know. There's more than one? LOL. I'll find out. It's probably Metro.

If it's Metro then there's a whole bunch right there for pretty cheap. There's a lot of construction going on near Telegraph and I 94 so I can't lead you anywhere past what is at the airport.

There is a decent Super 8 motel on the east side of the airport. I think it is on Harrison Rd. Take the airport exit, then Middlebelt south to Wick Rd. (only a 1/2 block) turn left on Wick and right on the next road, which is Harrison. There are more motels on that strip and they are all pretty reasonably priced.

and you are not too far from The Playhouse and THe Landing STrip if you are so inclined to spend a lot of money on silicone injected girls.

Thanks guys. I actually have a list of all the hotels right around the airport now. If anyone has stayed at these hotels or knows if the hotel chains tend to be pretty good (or suck), please let me know.

Baymont Inn & Suites

Doubletree Hotel

Comfort Inn

Ramada Inn

Days Inn

Howard Johnson Inn

Super 8 (gotcha Billy...it looks darn cheap!)

Park Inn

Travelodge

Thanks for the suggestions about "entertainment." Any idea how much the cover is to enter these classy places? I probably won't have time since I work that day, gotta drive from Saginaw, and then I'm seeing my gf for the first time in 2 months...but you never know. I wish I could go to the Tiger game, but 1pm is too early I think.

You may have to pay $5 but the good news is she probably gets in for free. Drinks will be about $5-$8. Dances are ususally $10 or $20 dpeending on where you have them.

The place here makes you pay $5 cover plus $7 for drinks at the door. So, really it is $12 to get in. Is it like that or different?

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Super 8 is popular with truck drivers because it is cheap and usually clean. Many of them also have electric plug-in systems to keep diesels warm on cold nights without having to leave them running.

They are not all clean, however. A certain type of person from far away lands are taking some of them over and letting them get run down. Similar to what has happened to many of the Econo Lodge. Most of them are pig pens.

The Baymont is higher priced, but very decent.

Those are the only two I have tried in that area, and it was usually the Super 8.

When you are allowed $105 for a hotel, and you can get one for about $48, you take it and pocket the other $57, because they pay $105 no matter what kind of receipt you turn in. Conversely, there are times when nothing is available but a room at $120.

Thanks Billy. Basically what I need to know is if it is clean enough and safe enough to do a little sleeping and possibly some horizontal polka...

keglerv...Deja Vu claims to have 1000 beautiful women and 1 ugly one. It must be a universal standard.

Horizontal Polka can be done in any hotel room, furnished or unfurnished. This popular dance is compatible with almost any venue, in a pickup truck, back seat, on the lawn, the surface of a well manicured golf course green is excellent. It can be done on the hood of a car, or atop the trunk. On a desk or table, or on fine carpet. It has been done in airplane rest rooms, under the bleachers at high school football games, in the crawl space under a new house, in the girl's bathroom at Jr. High. The sites for this activity are almost limitless. There are some cautionary measures to be kept in mind, i.e., avoid brightly lighted areas, stay out of water, and shun public roads because of the dangers of traffic.

And if anyone is interested in seeing some examples of such situations, 4Playz on Bay Road in Saginaw is having a 40% off going out of business sale on all items, including pornographic videos.

Good news Billy Ringo. I went with Super 8. Sorry, you don't win a prize, but I'll be thinking about you while I....nevermind.

Still looking to reserve a hotel room in Grand Rapids for the rest of the weekend...

If you spring for the Amway, you won't regret it until the bill comes.

Actually, most of the family (at least for one side) and wedding party are staying at the Amway. No way am I staying there. Even the other hotel they suggested, Marriot, is out of the question. If it has a pool, it will do.

Young Jedi. Learn well you should that the more luxurious the hotel, the more pampered your nubile young cohort will feel, and with more vigor and frequency will she want to dance the horizontal Macarena with you.

Good point. However, the more money I spend on a room, the less money I have to spend on other things.

If you spend enough on the room, all you'll need money for is condoms.
