NEW YORK (AP) -- Ivan Rodriguez's representatives and the Detroit Tigers worked Friday to finalize the catcher's four-year, $40 million contract with the aim of announcing it early next week.

The sides planned to continue work on the agreement this weekend, and the Tigers could hold a news conference as early as Monday to announce the deal, a baseball source said on the condition of anonymity.

Dave Dombrowski, Detroit's president and general manager, has confirmed the talks but hasn't commented on how close the sides are.

"I don't have more to say," he said Friday.

Do you get the feeling the writers just replace Friday with Monday or whatever other day of the week they want, just to torture us?!

Didn't I just read this exact article on Thursday, saying Friday would be the day? Now we have to live through Saturday and Sunday, holding our breath until Monday when they will probably announce the deal may be done on Tuesday! I think I'll be completely insane by Wednesday.
