Joe Louis was a newer arena in 1987 than Comerica Park is today.
1987 was a great year to be a Detroit sports fan. Probably the most exciting non-championship season ever, as the Wings, Pistons and the Tigers all made it to their league's semi-finals (although none of the three advanced to their league's championship final). Wings made their first semis since '66, in a remarkable turnaround. Pistons likely would have defeated the Celtics if not for the famous Isaiah throwaway. Tigers outlasted the Jays after those seven 1-run games in the final week and a half of the season. And the Lions ...? 4W 11L, lol.
