I've got a 360, and got it probably about 3-4 years ago. The only problem I had with it had nothing to do with the Red Rings of Death (knock on wood), but sent it in to Microsoft & it was fixed & sent back for free.

I guess when it comes down to it, I wouldn't really deter anyone from getting a 360 just because of the Red Rings issue, just because even if it does happen, Microsoft fixes it for free. Might kind of suck for the time that it takes to get fixed, but even so, if he already has a PS3 & he might not even be using it a ton, it doesn't sound like it would be as big of a pain as it was for someone like me, who did use it a decent amount & didn't really have anything else to use. I mean, it was kind of to the point that we were thinking of breaking out the PS2 and/or Dreamcast just to kill time when there was nothing to do.
