Default 2008 Mark Anderson/TigsTown.com Chat - Monday, 10.20.08 (4:00 pm EST)

As some of you may have seen in another thread last week, I'm going to try and do another chat similar in fashion to the one we did last year at this time...We have the blessing from MWG to conduct this again (Thank you, sir!), and we'll be having it on Monday, October 20, 2008.

2007 Mark Anderson/TigsTown.com Chat

As with last year's discussion I'll make myself available beginning at 4:00 pm EST to field questions on the Tigers in general, their prospects, the minor league system, and baseball in general. Questions can be submitted to me prior to the chat if you are not available at that time, via either PM or email (mark@tigstown.com), and I'll answer them that day when we get rolling. Otherwise, those of you that can attend, can fire away with your questions once we get going. I'll try to stick around for about two hours on that day.

As Scott has been gracious enough to allow me to reference (aka advertise) TigsTown.com with this chat, I'd like to touch on some of the great features we've got ongoing at the site right now....

As many of you probably know, I recently returned from a trip to the Instructional League in Lakeland, and I compiled a series of articles pertaining to what I saw, talked about, and heard while on the ground there. The first series of articles linked below are my daily box scores and game notes from the three days. The second series of articles is a compilation of my impressions and discussions while there, broken out player-by-player.

Day One Box Score/Notes (FREE)
Day Two Box Score/Notes (FREE)
Day Three Box Score/Notes (FREE)

In addition to this series, we'll be starting our annual TigsTools series next week, with a slightly different twist on the matter. In past years we've simply ranked prospects based on the scouting information of any given tool, and discussed things in that context. The change this year will be a statistical component that will be ranked separately where appropriate. On Tuesday's we'll release the scouting based tool ranking, then for those categories where there is a direct statistical measurement of the tool, we'll release a ranking of players based on that analysis each Thursday. We're hopeful that this cross-breeding of the tools lists will allow for some interesting discussion on the raw talent of players and their respective abilities to translate it to production on the field. I'll link the first in the series (Hitting for Average) when they go live next week.

The final big feature that will be rolling out soon, is the Annual Top 50 Prospect Rankings (We actually rank over 200 Tiger prospects). Starting the first week of November we'll be counting down the Top 50, followed by months worth of Prospect Profiles and analysis of the system, right up until spring training. As many of you are aware, TigsTown's rankings are developed based on a unique formula that weighs both statistical performance in areas such as walks, strikeouts, stolen base success, and others, in conjunction with 20-80 scouting scores for the basic tools and attributes of a player. We are confident that our blending of performance and scouting metrics provides the most in depth ranking of Tiger prospects found on the web. At the time of this chat, the rankings will be nearly finalized (sans some last minute tweaks or additions heading up to the release date), and I'll be able to give some insight into how things may fall out when they are released.

I'm truly looking forward to the opportunity to chat with you guys and field your questions! Don't forget, if you won't be around and have questions you want answered, you can send them to me ahead of time and I'll make sure to respond to them on chat day.

Thanks everyone, and a big thanks to Scott for letting me do this again!
Mark
